All About Vegetation, House Plants, Gardens, Trees ect.

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Zucchini is coming along. Orange Lunchbox sweet pepper ready to harvest. Tomatoes are looking ok. I have had the sonic animal repeller out for a couple of days and no more deer in the garden. Hopefully it will keep them out.

First zuchinni from the garden. We coated in olive oil, bread crumbs, and permesan cheese, and baked in the oven for 15 minutes. Served with a little Ranch. It was tasty!

Good lookin' spread, Unk!
Similarly, we slice zucchini lengthwise, about 1/4"-3/8" slices, coat with olive oil, season with Everglades Seasoning and grill it like a piece of meat. Makes a great side for a meal.

While dragging the water hose around and wetting the flowers I took a few photos. Tried to spruce up some of my concrete critters, my little Boston terrier is beginning to fall apart. ::handshake::

Tom, those veggies don’t care whether they’re in a pot or in a regular garden. Your taste buds don’t care either!

Homer, when I was young and single I rented a trailer (single wide  ) with a couple of roommates. It was in a trailer park on a lot located next to some folks that bred Boston Terriers. The kennel with several momma dogs was right outside my bedroom window. They barked constantly day and night - since then I’ve never cared for Boston Terriers! I moved out of there as soon as my lease was up! ::doh::

Here are some pictures I took of flowers currently blooming in the beds around the house.

Took some snap shots around my little wooden shed. This is the shed that I put the metal roof on last year.
::tu::

And one picture of my Bambus in the front corner of the car port. We had to put it out there because Jake used to eat the leaves off of it and then he would always get sick. Took us a long time to figure out the connection. ::dang:: Now he eats my Topinambur flowers all the time but at least they don't make him get sick. ::tu::

Guess I'll need two posts for all the snap shots. ::hmm::

Here's a game. Find the Stag. ::super_happy::

The fence behind the Cricket is new. Put it up a few weeks ago & put sand stones on the ground around my stumps to keep the weeds down. And on the street side I stacked a couple rows of sand stones. Also to keep the weeds down. :mrgreen

Almost forgot. Next to the Bambus are 2 water melon planst. First try with these. We shall see. ::shrug::

Friday evening I needed to get everything off my mind so I went outside and built one of them things you'll have to cut up with a chainsaw to get rid of it in ten years cause the wood's still too hard for the hand saw & the screws are all rusted up. ::nod::  Maybe it's "Garden Art", maybe it's "Redneck Rubble", I don't know. ::shrug::

The wood I used were parts of an old beer keg. Must be oak. Hard as all get out. Twisted of 5 or 6 screws puttin it together even though I predrilled stuff. ::uc::

It's a sort of crib I guess you could call it. ::hmm:: It holds an oooold hand ✋✋✋ formed roof tiel. In Germany they call this type of old tiels "mönch und nonne dachziegel". Or "Monk & Nun roof tiels" The roof tiel will soon (right after this post) hold dirt & it will be a planter for succulents. Could take a year or two for the succulents to cover up all the dirt though.

Coolest thing about it in my mind is..., if you look at it from the side, the legs form two X's. So for it's first debut I threw my latest Case XX addition into the planting area. May not be the prettiest succulent planter in the world but I'll still give myself an "A" for creativity. ::nod::

Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: Hope you enjoy the pictures! ::super_happy::

::hmm:: Looking at the pictures now..., it may look better if I put two tiels in it. ::hmm:: (overlapping end to end) ::hmm:: I'll have to give that a try and see. ::hmm:: ::nod::

Edit: Looking at these pictures of my Barlow, I see that it has 5 dots. Meaning it's a 1975. Same age as my wife. Pretty old. ::nod::  The sun must have hit them just right for them to show up because I couldn't see them before & I was sure there were none. ::uc:: My eyes must be getting weak.

Hi Folks,

"Garden Art" - "Part - Two"

Well I'm glad we talked about my little project this morning cause I wasn't really thrilled to death with it. I made some improvements. Added two more keg pieces curving upwards. Now it holds 3 tiels in a crossed formation. ::tu:: Then I played "Patty Cake" with some clay - mud I had sitting around in a bucket by the wood shed. Then added about 20 succulents and some pine cones that I stole from my stumps & around the house. Most of the succulents are veeeery small though. Can't hardly see them on the pictures. It's Hotter than a herd of goats in a Hot Pepper Patch today so the clay - mud mix will bake onto the tiels by this evening. It will be tricky watering the succulents untill they have covered the whole thing. ::doh::

Anyways, it's done now. ::nod:: ::super_happy::

Dinner last night.

Steamed, seasoned zucchini from the garden. Along with boiled, buttered red potatoes, and a pan-seared pork chop with peppercorn sauce.

I decided at the last minute to make the peppercorn sauce, but we didn't have all the ingredients.
1. I didn't have Brandy, so I used Bourbon
2. I didn't have shallots, so I used onion
3. I didn't have heavy cream, so I used sour cream
4. I didn't have green peppercorns, so I used black peppercorns and capers.

Turned out pretty good, despite all the changes -

Thanks TPK.

We also made this last night from some cucumbers from the garden. Equal parts red wine vinegar, water, and sugar, an onion, and a couple of cloves of garlic.

Did anyone else's mom make this? I used to love this stuff when I was a kid. Still do. Tastes great in this hot weather.
