Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

Here is one more pic related to my last post. This GM & O loco 100A is the same as the one in the 3rd picture of previous post. It looks brand spanking new in that photo and is rusting away on a siding in Paducah, Ky in this photo. I don't have the exact timeline for these pics, but these EMD 8's were built from 1949 to 1954, first pic was probably mid to late 50's. Illinois Central aquired GM & O in 1972, 2nd pic would have been sometime after that. IC had a significant presence in Paducah. I found the contrast between the two photos interesting.

I recently digitized my dad's 35mm slide collection and came across these 3 that seem to fit this category. My dad used to take us to the Berlin Connecticut RR Depot every Sunday morning after we got donuts and we'd watch the train come through the station. I can still remember the rumble of that big old diesel locomotive that we could feel a mile away. GREAT MEMORIES

Things like that are great memories that can never be replicated, and it's fantastic that you have not only a visual record of them, but your own record of them.

What an absolutely great post, Tom, and a great little tradition that created warm family memories. It brought back similar memories for me, minus the donuts.
I found a couple of pics of New Haven locomotives and the Berlin depot. That is/was a classic depot, is it still there?

Great pictures guys, but sorry to see that old depot going up in flames.

I found these B&O RR pictures on Twitter yesterday, the one next to the stream is heading into Cumberland from points West. Incidentally, the stream is called Will's Creek, named after Indian Will. Supposedly his gravesite is located between Cumberland and Bedford, PA, I would like to find it one day.

Well, today was the one I have been looking forward to,Big Boy day for Southern Illinois! I wasn't disappointed, it was awesome.

Good turnout of people, just goes to show no matter how much we progress with technology, people still love some of the old things. I don't think there would be a little kid on the planet that is not in awe of an old steam engine. Thanks for posting.

Cudgee, there have been large enthusiastic crowds all along this tour, you are right, people love old steam locos. What you don't see in my pictures is the fact that the track runs alongside the Mississippi River, less than 50 yards from my back as I stood and took pictures. When Big Boy pulled away to continue the journey, it was soon obscured by brush and trees, but I could hear the whistle at crossings as it rolled along the Mighty Miss. Anyone who could experience that and not get goosebumps....well I just don't understand 'em.

Getting ready for our grain harvesting season. This will be a common sight through many towns relying on grain for their income. Though not as many as there once was, many of these sidings have been closed down with trucks taking over.
