Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

The Milwaukee Railroad shops and Heritage museum is in North Sioux City not far from where I grew up. When I was a kid it was a major hub of the Milwaukee Road railroad. They are trying to restore the turntable and part of the engine house through donations. I remember going there with my dad when I was young and it was in full operation. 1355 is a steam engine that used to sit in downtown Sioux City. They actually got her running and she went to the museum under her own power. Wish I knew more. I keep telling the wife I want to get down to the museum one of these summers.

That is really cool, Bill! Thanks for posting. ::tu::

So many railroads are gone or have been gobbled up by bigger ones. Milwaukee, Nickel Plate, Soo Line . . . the list goes on but I love to see restorations keeping the history alive so they're not forgotten. ::nod::

Some great photos and history there, and looks like a great book, i love reading books about Rail of old. But the common theme is that with rail companies being bought and taken over, the corporate thinking with cost cutting and such, Rail loses a lot of it's romance and attraction that we all grew up with, sad, but those of us old enough to remember the great days of rail are fortunate and blessed to have lived through those times.

Yup mates, can not disagree.
Now that CP is taking over Kansas City, there goes another chunk of competition/history.
All about the big $, that's all they care about.

Most definitely. AMTRAK came along in the 70's as a solution to the dying passenger rail business here in the U.S.

Got an email that AMTRAK is having their 50 Year Anniversary, with special rates-

Not affiliated with AMTRAK, but that wouldn't be a bad gig. ::hmm::
