It's Beer Thirty

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Speaking of Samuel Adams...I wonder if any of you beer connoisseurs have ever tried their "Utopia" brews? At 28% ABV it's not for the faint of heart (or liver)...in fact, it's actually ILLEGAL in 15 states  .......and at $240/bottle   ::uc:: , it's not for those with light wallets, either (however, I heard that if you snort it through your nose with a straw, it will prevent and/or cure COVID-19 even better than Ivermectin or bleach!!! )

Better get your orders in for the Oct. 11 release (which could very well prove to be more of a lolly scramble than a new GEC release   )

I'd like to, but at that price, I won't. It's twice the ABV as the strongest beer I've ever had, which was served to me in a glass not bigger than about eight ounces.

I did some sampling at Old Ox in Middleburg, VA yesterday. They had an Octoberfest and a pumpkin that were delicious. Their Belgian Triple was delicious too, and on the high test side of the ABV. 😵🍻🎃🇩🇪

First Oktoberfest since 2019, Frederick, MD fairgrounds. Started with a Spaten Oktoberfest, followed by a Brewer's Alley (Frederick) Kölsh and a Hof Brau Radler. Had my GEC Beer & Sausage folder on hand for schnitzel and odd cutting jobs. Perfectly sharp and ready for even the beard grooming task. 🇩🇪 🍻 🎉

Good post, John! You got the knife lovers covered with that dandy knife and you certainly have some good looking food and drink. It has been a while since I have had any rotkohl, and schnitzel is good anytime. I can't say that I am a Radler fan, but I do like Kolsh style and I have had the Spaten Oktoberfest. ::tu::

Thanks, Ike. It was pushing 80° today so the Radler was actually refreshing. Seems like more of a warm weather brew. 🍻 The food was excellent, got some cinnamon Hazelnuts and Pecans for the road.

Another weakness of mine, I could eat my weight in cinnamon pecans, I make my own. Now, I gotta try Hazelnuts that way, have not had those.

Enjoyed a couple of glasses of Shiner’s Oktoberfest last night at a friend’s birthday party. Pretty good - I’ll be buying some more!

Oktoberfest at Döner Bistro in Leesburg yesterday was wunderbar! 🇩🇪🍻🎉

I met up with my brother and his family and my shooting bud and his wife. Lots of German beer, food and festivities, they do a 3 day event here and 1:00 yesterday was the special tapping of a beer from Germany made using the 1810 Wedding (which started the first Oktoberfest tradition) Beer recipe, which they gave out for free and it went fast! The Mayor of Leesburg assisted with the tapping, which is supposedly tradition for a mayor to do. There was a live band playing alt-rock (which I enjoy) and dancing on the tables was led by a Döner staff member, no one was injured! ::super_happy::

I had #17 in the Hof Brau stein, my brother had the #4 in his Warsteiner stein. Wish I could have tried more on the list! A 16 oz cup was $9, a liter stein fill was $13 so I was just getting the best deal. 😉👍🍻

Some excellent beers on that list John. Having spent a lot of time in Germany, I’ve become acquainted with several of those.

The Weihenstephan Brewery claims to be the oldest brewery in continuous operation in the world. Located in Freising, Germany (near Munich). It occupies an old Benedictine Abby where the monks brewed beer starting in 1040 AD, and is presently the site of the University of Munich graduate school of brewery science. There is also a large biergarten and restaurant there. The company I worked for most of my career has a factory in Freising, so I became well acquainted with the place. ::facepalm::

IMHO the best beer I’ve ever had is Erdinger Weissbier. Brewed in Erding, Germany which is just a few miles from Freising. I have a few of those in my fridge now.

If you have a chance to go back to Leesburg, give those a try. ::tu::

Thanks for the recommendations, Ken. ::tu:: I had a Weihenstaphaner Pilsner at Herb's today along with a Devil's Backbone Oktoberfest, some brats, rotkraut, sauerkraut and German potato salad. It was delicious and a knife talking good time. 😉👍

Nice fall day yesterday so I sat outside for a bit and enjoyed a home brewed Irish Red. It won’t be long and I’ll be stuck inside for 4-5 months so I gotta enjoy the weather while I can.
