BIG-TIME!!! "small talk "

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

That moment when you are truly getting older......

A few years back, I was in a Walmart looking at some heavy duty gloves for outside work. A teenager, about 17, maybe 18, passed by me a little close and said "Oh, excuse me, sir.

Sir?

Sir?

On aging.

My tolerance for idiots is extremely low today. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously, there is a new strain out there.

As I watch this generation try to rewrite our history, one thing I'm sure of ... it will be misspelled and have no punctuation.

Me: Sobbing my heart out, "I can't see you anymore ... I'm not going to let you hurt me again.”

Trainer: "It was only one sit-up.”

Sorry I haven't gotten anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag.

Turns out that being a “senior" is mostly just googling how to do stuff.

Do you ever get up in the morning, look in the mirror and think, "That can't be accurate.”

I want to be 14 again and ruin my life differently. I have new ideas.

Teacher: Give me a sentence which includes the words: defense, defeat, detail.

Student: When a horse jumps over defense, defeat go first and then detail.

God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the world. Then He made the earth round...and laughed and laughed and laughed!

I'm on two diets. I wasn't getting enough food on one.

Apparently RSVPing to a wedding invitation, "Maybe next time," isn't the correct response.

I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes.

I felt uncomfortable driving into the cemetery. The GPS blurted out. "You have reached your final destination.”

My mind is like an internet browser: At least 19 open tabs, 3 of them are frozen and I have no clue where the music is coming from.

Ponderisms

Why do peanuts float in a regular coke and sink in a diet coke.

I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going? (taxes)

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change??? They're going to see you naked anyway.

Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?

Why do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Advice from An Old Farmer
Weeds grow at twice the rate of crops.

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled.

Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.

Don’t judge folks by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life… Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.

Don ‘t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.

If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

Most times, it just gets down to common sense.

Finally got my wooden fence put up. Had planned on painting it yesterday but then it rained in the morning. Not much, just enough to soak the fence so I couldn't paint it yesterday. ::doh::

This morning I woke up at 04:30 cause I had to use the bathroom. It hadn't rained any since yesterday morning so I figured what the heck, I'll stay up, drink my coffee, get my work cloths on & I'll be outside painting even before the sun comes up. There's a street light in front of our house & painting don't make any noise. So I'm down stairs drinking my coffee and what happens? ::nod:: It pours down rain for about 10 min. Not really much, just enough to soak the fence again. ::nod:: ::doh:: ::facepalm::

Should have gone back to bed I guess. ::dang:: Oh well, I need to move a wood pile in the barn to make room for more wood. Maybe I'll do that today but it will be a while till everyone wakes up & I can make noise.

Anyways, here are a few pictures of the fence. If you look to the bottom left corner and the top right corner of the black metal gate you can see some aluminum. These are "U" shaped rails and the oak wood under the metal gate is also "U" shaped so the the entire black gate can be slid up & out of the fence whenever needed. Like when moving furniture or other large items. ::nod:: And..., this was all "scrap wood" and pallet wood. Only bought the screws and the post cap. ::nod:: ::super_happy:: ::tu::

(Due to the fact that this was all scrap wood, the fence has different lengths to it. Had to work with what I had so I sorted the wood into groups & stair stepped it. I had just enough too. Couldn't make any fail cuts.) ::woot:: The good lord provided the exact amount of wood that I needed. ::nod:: ::super_happy::

Tomas, what type of brennholz do you have there? It doesn't appear to have the smooth bark of Beech, is it a type of Oak?
The chunks are very uniform.
Has the price of wood increased much with gas shortages forecast?

It's mixed. Beech, Oak and a little Birch. Yes it has gone up in price. Wood is sold by stere over here. 1 stere = 1 m3 ≈ 0.276 cords. Last year 1 stere costed €75. This year it cost €125. We need between 8 & 12 stere per year depending on how cold it is & how much coal we use. Last year we used around 1800 pounds of coal & 8 steres of wood. This year I have not bought any coal yet because it has gone up even more than wood. Last year coal was €2.50 - €3 for 20 lbs. This year 20lbs. Have gone up to €6. ::dang:: Right now I have about 9 or 10 steres of wood in the barn but no coal yet. We are ::pray:: for a mild winter. ::nod::

My daughter Lorelai turned 16 today. ::nod:: :D

My other daughter Jazlin came with a train from Würzburg to visit us today on her little sister's Birthday. ::tu::

Würzburg now has a Dunkin Donuts so she brought her sister & us some Dunkin Donuts. These are the first donuts from Dunkin Donuts we have ever had in Germany so it was a very special treat. ::nod:: ::tu::

Of course Dunkin Donuts is already revved up for valentine's day. Here are a few pics. :D

They were delicious! ::nod:: ::tu:: ::super_happy::

Tim Horton's - Canada's version of Dunkin Donuts. They've slowly been working their way south into the northern US states. From what I hear, most folks say they're better than Dunkin.

Sounds like a great.birthday treat. Is 16 the legal driving age in Germany?

If I lived in Germany and a Dunkin Donuts sprung up nearby, I would be ecstatic. Livin where I do, with choices between DD, Krispy Kreme, Or Hoton"s, I prefer Tim Hoton's. I love those chocolate Timbits!. The fact that Cofounder Tim Horton was a beloved, superstar hockey legend probably helped fuel the growth of the franchise greatly, especially during the early years in Canada. Tom, imagine Franz Beckenbauer starting a donut shop in Germany.at the height of his career.

Tim Horton's had a frosted donut topped with crushed Oreo. It was really good. For my money, they're at least equal to Dunkin' and Krispy Kreme.
