CASE XX 1940-1964 WOOD FOLDING HUNTER KNIFE 6265SAB
I recently purchased a knife that was advertised as CASE XX 1940-1964 WOOD FOLDING HUNTER KNIFE 6265SAB for over $200. However, when I looked in the allaboutpocketknives price guide, I discovered that Case did not manufacture wood knives of this pattern until 1970. Does anyone have any information regarding this? Is the knife authentic or not? Thanks.

HI and welcome to AAPK; best knife site on the web. The price guide you are referring to may not be uptodate and complete. Case made two wood handled versions; of the 6265 folding hunters from 1940 to 1964. One with drilled bolsters and one with plane bolsters. Parker's Volume 8 Traders Guide shows a price of $175. Hope this helps.

TwoHundred, that's just Buzz Parker's opinion; on what the knife is worth. Though he does have a much greater knowledge; on knives than I do. I do know from buying and selling on eBay; knives quite often go for more than the book price. Especially older Case knives; even common wood handle folding hunters; depending on who happens to be bidding. The only opinion that counts is yours; if you like and are satisfied with the knife; you didn't pay to much. JMO, I've over bid several times; because it was a knife I really wanted.TwoHundred wrote:thanks big monk....Oh well, I better purchase the #9 Parker's Guide, 2010 before I make another hasty purchase!

If you need help posting pictures see here: viewforum.php?f=98Wildshane85 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 8:48 pm I also just purchased a wood handle one blade folding hunter straight xx. 40-64. Just scroll down to find the thread applicable to your device and operating system.
Probably better to post them in the Case Knife Collector's forum viewforum.php?f=66 where it will be more likely to be seen by Case collectors. This is the Case Classics forum - different knives.

Post a picture and we'll get back to you. Remember, condition is everything when trying to place a value on a knife. And to AAPK!

While we are waiting to see some pictures I’ll put forth a couple of observations. Case did make some 65 patterns with jigged wood handle covers late in the XX era, probably close to 1964 or thereabouts. (Maybe Steve Pfeiffer knows more precise dates). Their value, in mint condition, is around one-third to one-half that of the bone handle version.
As pointed out already, condition plays a big factor in value.

Your pictures aren’t very clear but from what I can see it appears to be re-handled. The original handles were jigged but yours appears to be smooth.

Definitely a re-handled knife. Being the blade is a high pull with the nail nick high on the blade rather than further toward the point it would not have been wood originally. This type of blade was not used on pakkawood handled knives.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
