Certificate of Authenticity. AKA pieces of paper. Case Classics are a creation of James Parker, as are certificates of authenticity. Case Classics came with Certificates. Some collectors put store in them, sort of like the boxes. They are part of what came with a new Case Classic at time of purchase. Basically they say that the knife is authentic.

However there’s nothing that prevents a crook from counterfeiting both a knife and the certificate to go with it. ::facepalm:: I haven’t seen that as a problem with Case Classics though. Just saying IMHO a certificate proves nothing. It’s simply part of the ephemera associated with the knife.

There are lots of re-handles Classics with made up certs. Many of the exotic handled Classics have pattern#'s that start with 7.They started out has celluloid handles that were changed.

I have a 1072 Mastodon ivory Clasp, it’s the one that’s pictured in the price insert for the book “ Best in the long haul”
The cert I have shows a that the shield is an oval but the knife has a bow tie shield. The other knife a have is a Mastodon Ivory 488 Congress. The cert I have shows it a Clasp, it should say Congress.

Unless the knife has a specific number on it (like 19 out of 500) and a matching
number on the COA, the paper to me does not have too much meaning.
Even then, with apps and quality printers, fake paper could be easily made.
If it makes the knife owner feel better about his knife, more power to him.

Some of my other classics I sent to Ed Henely and he inspected them. The ones that were original he sent certs. The ones that seemed to be altered didn’t get a cert. I’ve been calling Parker’s but not getting anyone to talk to, just a recording.

Hey, Joe!
Been a minute since we spoke. This has always been an issue with PKCS certs (and others) as anyone can use them generically. The supplemental price guide is the best cert you could ever have for your 1072. That one is a crown jewel!
Have you reached out to John? He may still be doing certs, his deluxe certs have a color pic of the knife as well as descriptor. PM me if you need his contact info.

Glad you’re still in possession of that one.
Regards

EDIT FOR EXAMPLE:
Joe, I took a quick snapshot of a deluxe cert I mentioned above for reference.

Thank you Sir, I hope all is well! I could use some help I’ve tried a few times to call Parker’s and no one ever answered or called me back.
