Classic Trapper Prototype 1997
I usually can figure out what I have but I'm Stumped . Pick-up some Case Classic Trappers that all are marked Prototype on the rear of the Master Clip and has a Date of 1997 . I guess my question is what would make these a prototype from 1997 when I thought they would have and earlier date . Was not a wear of the Classic line that late with prototypes. Any Help

Re: Classic Trapper Prototype 1997
I think I have figured it out all of the Case Classic were just Case Stamped on the Tang & the Shields the ones I have pictured above are Case Family Brands .
There was 17 different Trappers in the first bunch of Case Classic Trappers . All had different Handle Material & Shields. A list can be found in Parkers Book ( Case Classic Best of the Long Haul ) pages 65 & 66 .
Also looks to me that 1998 is the last year of the Classic line .
The Prototypes I have pictured above must be Parkers new line that never made it ???????
Hope someone can give a better explanation of the Parker Family Classic of the older Brands .

I guess we have no Case Classic experts . I assume that what I said that 1998 was the last year of the Classic Question Yes or No
Also there is no Case Classic Family Brands except the Proto Trappers I have pictured ?????
Except I have a nice Display with 27 Case Classic Family Brands that maybe like the Trappers a one of a kind the photo's aren't good will try to do better later
If someone has any please show
Thanks Gary

All I can say is, where Jim Parker was involved anything is possible.

Re: Classic Trapper Prototype 1997
In the 1990's, Parker released a number of "Family Brands" knives with the older Case-related tang stamps. This was after Parker lost ownership of Case, and years before Case reacquired the use of the brands. Platts, Standard, Kinfolks, Crandall...maybe others?
Parker had some of these made in the USA by Queen and some made in Solingen by Olbertz. Gets to be confusing.
The OP trappers are all Queen made with various tang marks and handle materials. Very nice, high quality knives, IMO.
If one is interested in these knives, best to try to collect Parker's catalogs from the 1990's. They were issued frequently and show a mind-boggling array of contact knives made for Parker's.

Those are some nice pieces I like the fit
Re: Classic Trapper Prototype 1997
Nice group!!
I chased these several years back myself. Looking at this post motivated me to share, these still pop up from time to time on ebay and other sites.
This one’s from an old bulldog cat 97-8 TRVKA Publication There’s prob same pic of trappers in a color version catalog, they alternated w/ b&w occasionally, that’s just the one in this binder with the TRVKA.
There was a TRV Whittler collectors variation as well.
Lots of tangents with J.P. And, I enjoyed them all.

Re: Classic Trapper Prototype 1997
Trappers weren't the only ones in the Family Brand lines. I had a set of 8 of the Family Brand Doctor knives. Ended up selling them, just don't remember to who. There were other Docs, one each tang stamp in bone and one each in stag. I got these in the late '90s - early 2000's.
1996
- Crandall - Blue Dahlia
- Kinfolks - Duck Feathers
- Platts - Abalone
- Standard - Christmas Tree
and
1997
- Crandall - Goldstone
- Kinfolks - Blue Swirl
- Platts - Butter & Molassis
- Standard - Cracked Ice Swirl

You had a nice set there, Jerry!
I had not seen that acrylic on the far right. Do you have a picture of the blade etching on these?
