Case Stamp Question

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Stamp Question

Post by TPK »

Hi Knifers,

Here's another one of those "Dose this knife & stamp look right?" quesions. To me, it looks like CASE over something long. Maybe Tested XX. ::hmm:: This is the first "Older Generation" Case I have ever come across over here so I have no idea what it's worth. The sell made me an offer of €57 which is about $70. Thought I'd offer him €40 - €45 and just see what happens. ::shrug:: So I may or may not get it but if anyones "Fake Alarm" goes off at first sight you could let me know. The seller only has one picture & it's not very good. I'm also unsure what patern this would be. ::shrug:: Too bad it's not a Tadpole. :( To me it looks like a Peanut. ::shrug::

Thanks for any & all Input! I'd appreciate it! ::handshake::

Tom, I would need to see a closer picture of the tang stamp to be sure (it doesn't expand much when I click on it), but I think the tang stamp perhaps looks a bit "wonky". Also, what is the length? From the shape, it looks like maybe a 6214 1/2. The closed C shield fits the tested period. You may get more responses if you post this in the counterfeit forum.

Tom, the knife looks good to me. Nice score! ::tu:: As already said the handle covers are rough black, aka “gum Fuddy”. Case made a bunch of different “torpedo jack” patterns during the Tested era, the main difference between them being the size. Need to know the closed length (in inches  ) to tell what pattern it is. Measure carefully as some of them differ by as little as 1/4 inch or less.

Excellent find, Tom. First I was thinking it could be a 6202 1/2 if a "6" was also used for Gum Fuddy, but Steve says they were all bareheads, so now I think Herb is right.

GREAT score, Tom! For only $49.00, you practically STOLE that knife (or the seller practically GAVE it away). Well done, sir, well done, indeed! ::nod::

It's here! ::ds:: My "Torpedo Jack". ::groove:: Did some cleaning on it and here it is! ::super_happy:: It's 3 3/8" in length. Has very good snap! Just right for my taste. Solid half stops. Which I like. Handles are in great shape. No cracks or chips. I like the feel of them better than that of Delrin. Delrin feels more like hard plastic. These feel more like hard rubber. I like them. Pins are peened nicely. (Is that correct? Peened) Springs & well cleaned up very good. Blades have some wear on them but I'm still very stoked with this find! ::nod:: Threw it right into my pocket! ::nod:: I love it already! If anyone can tell me the pattern Nr. or close age, that would be wonderful. Oh & it's stamped Case over Tested XX on the main blade. I'll post a few pictures of it here and some more in the Case thread later on or tomarrow because it's getting late. Thanks for looking friends! ::handshake:: :D

Tom, at 3-3/8 inches with a clip master blade your knife looks like a 6214-1/2 pattern. And I’d say you got a good deal at that price. ::tu::
