Knice collection Joe!!

I must say a VIC SAK Classic is what made me aware of knife carry daily. It was probably 17 years ago and this fellow ordered some with his business name printed on them (Ad specialties is my main gig)....and he gifted me one. I lost his but can confidently say there's not a day
since then that I haven't carried a SAK of some size.

Right now I'm toting this one...

I know Hoffritz was an importer, and most of their SAK's were made by Victorinox, but I'm not sure about this one. Tang stamped Hoffritz NY over Made in Germany. My understanding was that after WWII German imports were branded with West Germany, making this pre war. I'm confused,... but it's a nifty, well built SAK for sure !

I was honored to receive this Tie-Tac from Charles and Veronika Elsener after they had bought several vintage, USA made,
knives from my table at the 2011 Blade Show. They were acquiring knives to put in the museum at their USA headquarters.
A very delightful, and down to earth, couple. They had employees that served as a translator and negotiator.

The 4 blade Victorinox in the background, was my very first knife. It has a quarter round awl, no toothpick or tweezers. It also had a relatively fancy bail.

I got it in 1975, from my Dad. He mentioned at work that I had asked for a knife. One of his co workers gave him this knife to give me. It was a time before multitools, there weren't even complex SAKs around.

I used it for everything, tightened every screw I could find, drilled 1000 holes with the awl, opened every can my mother needed, chose soda in glass bottles so I could use the opener (even if it was a twist off). I would have killed for a wine bottle to open. Suffice to say I was not surprised at all by what the original Mc Giver could do with his.

one of mine has a Phillips head screw driver that has nail file . took me years to find it. LOL One has a plain awl and the other has a hole for leather sewing. as per a YouTube video.

Here is a collector's set I picked up at the flea market yesterday for $50. Supposed to be worth a lot of money.

This Pioneer showed up in yesterday's mail. I do like me some Alox.
Victorinox Pioneer Silver Alox 53960 - Labeled.JPG
I was looking for something small with scissors and ran on to this lot of 2 Classic SD's in Alox at a decent price. Used but you have to look close to see the evidence.

Hello guys,
I have a question about this knife, it was my father's it was in a trinket box on his dresser when I was a kid in early 1970s, but i'm not sure how much older than that it is, he never carried it and its pretty near mint but no box, I have seen several searching the web ,called secretary knifes ,but they don't seem exactly the same as this one..and markings on tang are different, so I would love too know, the model, age, and value?, though I would never sell it, just curious.

Wbyonder: regarding the 'Secretary' SAK you posted above: Victorinox has made thousands of different patterns over the last 50 years. It takes a dedicated SAK collector to give a date range for an individual knife. I have a couple of hundred SAK but i know little about them as my focus is in other areas of 'knives'.
You could email Victorinox and attach pictures and you might get a reply.

Enjoyed the posts. One that has worked for me, not a Victorinox-but a a Wenger. It has never been a burden and a fine field dressing tool. Memories of oxygen sucking cold at the ending of a few successful hunts with this one.

Yes, the saw blade on SAK's cuts well without binding. It is a very useful blade.

Although I don't normally collect Swiss Army Knives somehow they seem to fall into my hands occasionally. Here are two I recently acquired.
The miniature metal handled one has a logo that looks like a fist clenching a bar or something like that. Fifty cents at the local flea market.
The big is called a Ranger 06 Mountaineer and has never been carried.$12 at the same flea market.

Ray, your Ranger Mountaineer can sell on ebay for $30-$40. It is a real workhorse of the SAK's, a very good back country carry knife.

Roland:What I like about it is the size and lightness of it.A big knife that doesn't weigh a short ton. Still a bit too large to pocket carry though.

I find a saw blade is often useful. With twigs/brush it can be easier to saw through than slice through and the saw blade on SAK's cuts well without binding. The only other makes i have found with a good saw blade is Eye Brand (Schlieper) and Schrade USA, the 97OT.

The saw blades that cut the best are the ones that the blade thickness is less at the top than at the teeth.A lot of the early style saws had parallel sides(same thickness top and bottom) that cause the blade to bind.Although I find that saws that cut on the back stroke(pull) seem to work better for me the one on the Mountaineer is multi-directional.
