Yes, the saw blade on SAK's cuts well without binding. It is a very useful blade.

Although I don't normally collect Swiss Army Knives somehow they seem to fall into my hands occasionally. Here are two I recently acquired.
The miniature metal handled one has a logo that looks like a fist clenching a bar or something like that. Fifty cents at the local flea market.
The big is called a Ranger 06 Mountaineer and has never been carried.$12 at the same flea market.

Ray, your Ranger Mountaineer can sell on ebay for $30-$40. It is a real workhorse of the SAK's, a very good back country carry knife.

Roland:What I like about it is the size and lightness of it.A big knife that doesn't weigh a short ton. Still a bit too large to pocket carry though.

I find a saw blade is often useful. With twigs/brush it can be easier to saw through than slice through and the saw blade on SAK's cuts well without binding. The only other makes i have found with a good saw blade is Eye Brand (Schlieper) and Schrade USA, the 97OT.

The saw blades that cut the best are the ones that the blade thickness is less at the top than at the teeth.A lot of the early style saws had parallel sides(same thickness top and bottom) that cause the blade to bind.Although I find that saws that cut on the back stroke(pull) seem to work better for me the one on the Mountaineer is multi-directional.

My first one in quite a while. It just grabbed me. A red one next month (I hope).

I like the alox ones that also have a saw blade (or, now scissors are an option); i.e. a 5 blade knife rather than the 4 blade shown above.

And here is a big SAK, 4 1/2" like the 2 shown above but this has a saw and big scissors as well as a locking master blade. Super good back country carry, in a belt sheath.
