Don't hold back Tony. Let us know how you really feel about Opinels.

I've had a couple in the past that have mysteriously disappeared but I still have two left. Since all I ever carry is one of my Camillus 72s, I can't comment on their usefulness nor desirability.

A Nº07 gift from 313Mike a few years ago.
Opinel Nº07 Orange - Christmas '16 from 313 Mike.jpg
And this Nº08 I bought a few years ago.

Dang Vit. That one's a real beauty. I didn't know the Opinels had it in them. Of course I don't look at them very often.

And at the end, an incredibly stylish Opinel No 8 Ellipse. Photo not able to show all the charm of this knife (or am I a bad photographer  ).

I have a few more Opinel knives. Someday I will photograph them and show :) .

That may surprise some people, but that is the way it is.
What's more is that this is the only style of knife that does nothing for me.
Tony.
Tony,

I have to say I'm in agreement. I have had a few over the years - just don't like the shape of the blade with no drop and such a massive belly swoop leading to the point. I really like slim knives, so the big round frame doesn't work for me --- BUT --- I fully appreciate the super thin blade that is a bonafide slicer & the pure simplicity of the design and the unique rotating lock. I know "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies as they sell boatloads of them, but I just wish they would modernize it by offering some more conventional blade designs.
pffffft that's not a knife ......... now THAT'S a knife !! Crocodile Dundee

I too am not a fan of the "fat" blades but this one isn't too bad.

Glad to see an appreciation for Opinel on this forum. Nothing unusual about mine. I bought it in 1983 at the "Le Bon Marché" in Paris when I was a young teenager. Its been around the world (literally) and still cuts, sharpens and functions perfectly.

I just doubled my Opinel collection, added a No. 09 DIY. I like the bit driver tools for working on knives and firearms. Surprised at how much bigger it is than a No. 08. But that does give more leverage using the bit driver.

Opinel is not a great looking knife so anyone looking for a visual appeal, won't find this attractive. I own a No. 8 which is the most popular size of Opinel as per my opinion.
