George Wostenholm IXl-XX

Post by Localmotion2 »

I have this George Wosenholm knife that was made in Sheffield England. It is a 3 blade large stockman. The blade stamp is IXl XX. It has scrimshaw on both sides of handle material. It’s a dog chasing a coon on one side and the coon is treed on the flip side. Inscription says “Cinderella Warrior.” This knife is the only one I have personally seen like it. I can find an image of one like it that has a boat sailing towards a lighthouse, but not this one. I was wondering how early a piece this might be. It is in mint unused condition no box. See attached pics. Any feedback would be appreciated

That honestly looks like a custom scrim, and a good job too!

Could be right Eric about it being custom scrimshaw. It is deep in bone handle material. Like I mentioned, I have seen others with a boat sailing towards a lighthouse but not this on. I believe these knives were made pre-1980 but not certain. 🙏

Could this be from when Schrade owned I*XL?
And the extra XX be a second? I have Schrades with XX that are seconds.

Could be Edge213. I did read that Schrade did some collaborations in early 80’s using the I*XL Wostenholm “I Excel”standard. This knife does not say Schrade anywhere on it though. Who knows? I like it though. Thanks for your input.
