I would urge people not to use friends and family (gift) to pay for anything on the web - you have no protection from fraud or loss, normal paypal payment does cost the seller 3% but gives you complete protection should problems arise.

I think its rather sketchy for a seller to ask for paypal F&F or gift payments... legit sellers should be aware of the costs and include the fee in the price.

Normally folks want the lowest price possible so that is why private sales occur as opposed to buying on ebay and having them surpervise your transaction. Personally have sold many transactions here all paypal friends, all positive, references available. However if someone wants to add the 3% paypal fee on and go that way it is no problem. Also think this should be a separate topic and not really attached to one individuals post but thanks for the bump.

@Flynbulldog, have you looked into PayPal’s “acceptable use policy” lately? The last time I knew they were not honoring any knife related disputes…in fact they were shutting down accounts that were buying/selling knives through goods and services because knives violated their policy as dangerous weapons.

Admittedly I haven’t looked recently if this has changed, but a Google search will result in many examples of this flaw when is G&S with PayPal….

Thanks, I was unaware of that stipulation on knives. I've purchased several knives via paypal and luckily have had no problems. But I have had problems with other transactions and paypal has refunded my money and removed the funds from the seller - had I used F&F I would have been out of luck.

I agree with not selling through Ebay, they take too much of a cut and now they act as the bank taking away any control we might have. I hate selling through them. But sometimes it seems they are the only place with such a big reach of potential buyers. And, I did have 2 knife purchases through ebay that were not what the seller advertised and I was able to get refunds on both of them. So there is an amount of safety purchasing through ebay.

So far I've had very good experiences buying knives here on AAPK, I've used paypal but never F&F. I'll have to look more closely at the PP policy.

So back to the knives for sale here. They look really nice and I humbly apologize for the sidetrack.
I wish you good luck with your sales. ::handshake::

Sorry to keep this going but I just looked up the policy and pocket knives are fine on paypal. They only prohibit knives that are prohibited by law. This is exactly the wording in their prohibited policy:

certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.

So, I take that to mean that paypal would honer a dispute on a legally purchased pocket knife such as these in this ad.

Again I apologize for dumping on this nice persons ad, but he did ask for gift/F&F and I do think unless you know the person it is a mistake.

Well this has topic has taken off. I will point out that I said " preferred " in the original post as far as the paypal ff goes. I also have offered same price with buyer adding on the paypal 3 percent. Additionally I have my ebay account that has 400 plus 100% feedback. To go further if someone wants to pay 13 percent over what I have here, I can list either of the two that are left on ebay as a buyitnow and you can use paypal and your credit card. So with all that said, sorry, I guess if potential buyers of these are still scared away from all this talk, there isn't much else I can do to be reassuring.
