Show off your fixed blades!
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
The letter carrier, which is in fact a mail man, brought me two new toys today. The Cattaraugus 225Q is in about as good a condition as you will find on the open market. I think that that style knife is my favorite of all of the WWII knives. It is one tough mojo.
The Western G-46 6 is a bit of a mystery. The seller claimed that the former, original owner was a Navy pilot, flying out of New Guinea during "The Big One." The knife has replacement scales made of horn. I could not make up my mind whether they were wood, plastic or horn until I hit a small spot with a little sand paper and produced the smell like that of burned hair. (It could be Water Buffalo?) and the sheath has a top half replacement. I suspect that leather did not last long in a place that can get 10-16" of rain a day, day in and day out. The flash was very unkind to the edge, it really does not look bad...

I see why you got one. It's a very good looking piece. I especially like the handle.

Three I got from Roland. Top to bottom: Bob Dozier, Rick Menefee, Joe Calton.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
thanks Cody. The Dozier and the Menefee are both 6 1/2" OAL. The Menefee fits very nicely into a right front pocket.

Yet another Gil Hibben Alaska themed knife. This one is called a "Tundra Bushcraft Knife."
I "pre-ordered" it last march and received it this week. 4-11/16" stainless drop point blade, stainless guard, micarta handle. This knife is very good quality as is typical with all the Hibben knives in my collection.

Nice. And I like the big loop in the sheath so it can swivel somewhat on the belt, whilst sitting for example.

I looked this one up, and I can't believe it's just a $50 knife. I think one of these is in my future--should be able to take a lot of rough use.
