J Russell tang stamp ??

Post by Mossdancer »

Does anyone have any idea when this mark was first used on the russell skinner. It does show up in the 1884 catalogue, so it was then or before. Also when was it discontinued if it was.
The small quad diamond is approx 1/2" long by 1/4" high. Looking closely you can see the three diamonds within the larger one. No letters, names or anything just the diamond under Green River Works. this stamp is 1 1/4" from leading edge of g in green to trailing edge of s in works,
Thanks for any help offered,
W.B.

Hey W B
In one of my books, it says that stamp was used
as early as 1840. Says they produced 60,000 skinners
from 1840 to 1860 to be sent to the western fur trade
Thats all I got
