Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Calvin, your T.H. puukko looks PERFECT ! I bet it is hair poppin' sharp and i really hope your hunting gives a chance to try it out. Because of the scandi grind there is no secondary edge bevel so they can edge hold as long as a man can live !
Please be sure to report back after you have field dressed with it.
I see the puukko design as perfection of the fixed blade knife: so comfortable in hand and so effective at cutting and edge holding.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I assume that is a CASE, by the sheath. Beautiful mint knife in an excellent pattern. Looks a lot like a BUCK 119. Good photo, as well.
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
That is a beauty John. Really like that blade profile and fuller.

According to Brad Wood in Sargent's last, it would be 1965 or later John. The front is stamped CASE XX USA I'm betting. According to Mr. Wood the fixed blade Case XX USA period for FB knives ran through 1979. The FB knives then took on the same dating marks as the pocket knives in 1980. Model stamps started in this XX USA period for fixed blades.

Deep in the guts of most men is buried the involuntary response to the hunter's horn, a prickle of the nape hairs, an acceleration of the pulse, an atavistic memory of his fathers, who killed first with stone, and then with club...Robert Ruark

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Just finished this one up for a lady whose dad just got back from Africa. He had been there 20 years and was a missionary. She wanted to give him a knife with a African connection, so I put sable antelope horn on it for the handle. Also stamped his initials on the leather and the blade. blade is about 4 inches and made out of O-1. thanks for looking, Terry

Very nice knife, Terry. Is the thong keeper made of horn, as well?

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Really like the blade shape and choil of that blade!
For in the woods, I'm finding a Mora Companion is a pretty good choice. And with only about a 2.5mm thick blade, it works good in the kitchen for food prep. Being plastic everything (sheath and handle) it's easy to ensure it's clean. This replaced the Clipper, both in the Mora lineup (but is still being produced for Bahco/Snap-On Tools) and my use (at 18, the Bahco was the first fixed blade my folks let me buy). Longer for heavier tasks, but not freakin' nuts like say, a machete or Kabar. I do have a Camillus MKII "Kabar", but I'm finding that more and more overkill.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thanks for the comments guys! TR yes the keeper is a small piece of sable horn also. I try and use up small left over pieces of what ever I make the handle out of for that purpose. I have quite a pile of horns and antlers and ivory that aren't big enough for much else. I have a bad habit of not throwing anything away LOL. Terry

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I picked up this Scandinavian knife about a year ago and finally got around to making a sheath. The colors turned out pretty well for the knife. ____Dave
