Isn't 1095 comparable to AUS-8?
AUS8 is stainless steel.

I'd say this is pretty much a fixed blade. Been a while since I showed this.

Could be Erwin. For any who are not persuaded of that, it is an accurate replica of a Viking sword found in the moat of an English Castle. Most Vikings carried axes and spears. Swords were carried by high ranking or at least unusually prosperous Vikings.

This superb replica is of the Cawood Viking Sword one of the most well preserved of Viking swords. It was found in the mud near Cawood castle. Some say in the moat, some say in the nearby river. It is judged to be from the 11th century.
The original is in the Yorkshire Museum. For Museum Replicas this was made by Paul Chen/Hanwei.
The blade came with a very good sharp edge. I am told that it is easy to develop an edge of extreme sharpness for those who wish. Since it was going to be banging into shields, chain mail etc. I think the issue edge is probably more practical. It is said that the leather sheath is typical of the period.
Attributes
Overall Length 35 5/8"
Blade Length 29 5/8"
Handle Length 4"
Weight 2 lbs / 7 oz
Material 5160 High Carbon Steel
Cost about $315. For the quality and accuracy of this sword, I think it is an exceptional value.

Beautiful Garry! I have a friend who hand-forges swords and sells them on etsy! If you like swords, perhaps take a look at his! It's www.etsy.com , and search Saxonforge! Read the reviews as well!Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 9:41 pm I'd say this is pretty much a fixed blade. Been a while since I showed this.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Yes John, you would definitely feel you were a King, or at least a wandering Viking nobleman. I don't have many swords: four Japanese and this one Western Sword. But it is inescapable, when one picks up a well made sword one sort of feels the spirit of that sword.

The Old Hickory is similar to and suffers from the same "no guard" ailment as this Russell Green River hunter that I picked up last year.

I do love polished stag Gary and your Randall shows why.
Re: Show off your fixed blades!
A beautiful gathering of Case's Gary, thanks for showing. A couple of questions: In your first picture posted at the far right is a sheath with metal sleeve over the front seam. I've seen these from time to time on ebay. What is the purpose of these sleeves? And are they used specifically for a certain pattern?
TIA.
TIA.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
I mainly see them on Case's Pattern # 523-5 which is the Stag Handle Case 523-5 That's Pictured. It has the same sheath . The Sheath on the far right is on a Leather Handle Pattern # 362 & should be on the 325-5 next to the 362 . As Far as the metal on the edge of the sheath That's a question I don't have the answer for . I personally don't like the one's with the metal guard around the edge . I've noticed through the years that if you leave the knife in the sheath it will rust quicker than just leather sheath . I try not to leave them in the sheaths . All the one's shown came off a USA Board that I busted up. Some of the Leather Handle Case Fixed Blade Pattern's Shown you don't see much and Case Fixed Blades is what I likesteve99f wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:07 am A beautiful gathering of Case's Gary, thanks for showing.
