Estwing, the hammer people, now sells Bowie knives and a machete. Not looked for prices and how about quality?

Mr. Watch, check this out. Is this what you are asking about?

This "thing" made the rounds on AAPK and was given a workout.

I have that knife on my belt every day at the farm.
The only thing I'm not wild about, the way it sits in the sheath makes it a little top heavy. But I could always trade out sheathes if it bothered me that much.

They used to make a leather washer handled knife that matched their hatchet. They always sell for more than I’m willing to pay.
I’m sure the newer offerings are decent users but don’t appeal to me looks like wise

I've had a leather handled knife in my safe for years. The handle matches the hatchets and hammers. They are a nice well made knife.____Dave

Estwing Sportsman.
Sweet knife! Very classic American design
The one I was thinking of has the same end cap as the hatchet.

They make a lot of different hammers. Very specific specialized ones. Their web site is amazing.
Their hatchets and axes are awesome.

I should have asked, do they make them or who does it for them? Trouble with a lot of their stacked leather hammers and hatchets is the leather dries out, cracks and can fail. watching some YouTube videos no one seems to agree how to maintain them, or what the factory puts on the leather. I priced a new Titanium hammer "not theirs" at just over $90. Nice and said to not send as much shock to your hand or wrist. Me? I only know how to bend every nail made.

I prefer the blue rubber handles on my Estwing hammers.
They seem to last forever and are gripppy and offer a little cushion and shock absorption.

Seems Estwing has added some new knives. Figured I’d add them to the thread for future reference.

- The machete mentioned earlier

- Interesting comparison picture.

Interesting that they chose to make lock back and frame lock versions with the same blades. I can’t think of anybody else who has done this in the past.

Milwaukee does that and they are really good knives and flip open quicker than an auto. And yes, they are Milwaukee red.____Dave

I would probably pay too much for a stacked leather handle because I love my 33 yr old hammer but the design of the bowie does not turn me on.

I figured I'd bump this one.
KA-BAR just came out with an Estwing/KA-BAR set--the knife's G-10 handle is inspired by Estwing's blue Shock Reduction Grip, and the Estwing framing hammer has a handle modelled on the Kabar's leather handle.
Link: Pricey at $300.

I don't think KA-BAR ever made knives for Estwing before this, however. Seem to recall all that I've seen were either rebranded Westerns, in-house, or imported from Sweden.

I like that knife a lot more than the actual Estwing knives!

I agree!
Personally, as someone who bought one of them--they were too thick, too heavy, and too uncomfortable for my taste. That exact pattern would be perfect! I'd love for Estwing to try to make something other than the machete with the Comfort Grip.

Thanks for posting the ad.
Here's one I have like what is shown in the catalog page.

Nice one! I ended up with 2 of those. But mine aren't as nice as yours. I was surprised at the size, I always assumed they were closer to the hatchet.
I really like their hammers.

Thanks for bumping up this thread. I had forgotten about it. Fortunately I had also forgotten about the KA-BAR collaboration, now you’ve reminded me I “need” it. Lol.

You do indeed! You have enough Estwing hammers to equip a construction company. Your Estwing rig builder immediately caught my eye. I never saw one on the job. Vaughn dominated the rig builder market in my area back in the day. These days nails are mostly driven in with compressed air nail guns any way. Next they'll figure out a way to sit back and make their cell phone operate the nail gun.
I wouldn't mind having one of the early Estwing knives shown in the 1932 catalog to go with my hatchet. The only Estwing knife I have is similar to the Sportsman knife7knut pictured in the 8th reply to this thread. The difference is mine was made in Sweeden and does not have Western's two pins through its pommel. While they may be functional, I would not trade my old one for ten of the skelton handle Estwing knives shown above. Estwing should have named their Bowie something else. I can't imangine it in the hand of a man wearing buck skins and a coon hat at the Alamo.

Thank you, it took me forever to find one that was not used.
Quite a nice hammer collection!
