Custom knives

Not sure where to post this, but thought it would go well in this thread. I will be listing several fixed blades in my store over the next several days. All are coming from a fixed blade collection that I have on consignment. What a pleasure it has been to handle and admire these knives. Here are the first two going up tonight in my store.
The first one is a custom knife made by Barry Gallagher. Barry makes his own Damascus steel and this is hand forged. Mammoth ivory scales with mosaic pins. Black spacers on this tapered tang. The tang is also file worked. The Damascus on the bolster is pretty nice too. The sheath is handmade in Montana also.
The second one was made for A.G. Russell in the mid 1990’s. I suspect strongly that Master Seizo Imai made these for A.G. Russell. This is a Bob Loveless design and Master Imai made a lot of his designs, I have a few in my collection and this screams Imai to me. India stag handles with ATS-34 stainless blade with a full tapered tang. Black spacers on this one too.

That’s funny Garry. Thank you both. I felt like a kid at Christmas when this box of 10 or so knives arrived. You could hear me oohing and ahhing from another room. Can’t wait to clean up and photograph the others to share.

Two more to list. One is up already and the other one, I am waiting on the collector to confirm price. The first one is made by Master Hattori in the 1980’s. He made one similar for Parker Custom Series. The handles are laminated wood, most likely mahogany or Pakkawood. The blade is AUS-8 stainless steel. This knife is called the “Dream Hunter” H700, sometimes called a chute knife.
The second one is a Parker Custom Series knife also made in the 1980’s. Same wooden handles on this and most likely the same stainless steel. The tang stamp on the back reads: Hand Made by DAM. If anyone can shed some light on who this is referring to, I would appreciate hearing from you. This knife feels in hand like a Master Hattori knife. It has the smoothness and fit and finish of one of his knives, but I can’t find it on the Hattori Forums, but not all his knives are on that forum. Master Tak Fukuta could be another maker of this knife. It has a great feel in hand and the curves of this one are beautiful.
I collect Hattori knives and I know the quality of his creations. Master Hattori is in his 80’s and makes fewer and fewer knives each year. His knives, when they drop, sell out within minutes. I know Tony Bose had a lot of respect and admiration for Master Hattori, he is the reason I collect Hattori’s. Hope you enjoy the show. More tomorrow.

Two very beautiful knives Mark. The Hattori looks great as usual, and the blade on the Parker reminds me of a Blackjack Mamba, not the one I have with the dagger blade, but the original model.

Thanks Mark, I kept trying to think of what this Parker reminded me of and you are right the Mamba. So maybe this was made by Master Tak Fukuta? That would make sense.

That would make a lot of sense Mark. It certainly wouldn't be the first knife Tak built anonymously. Perhaps you could ask Jacob(eprague)if he knows anything? You sure have a whack of nice fixed blades in your store currently!

Here are a couple more going up tonight. The first one is done by custom maker A. Nelson. I can’t find any information on this custom knife maker. He must have made more than a few knives since this one is serial number 155. Micarta handles. The blade is thick at 3/16”. Jimping on the top of the blade. It’s a thick and heavy knife. Tapered tang. Nicely done.
The second one is made by Harry Mendenhall in 1986. The focal point of this knife is the engraving on the blade, on both sides. The engraving on the bolsters is pretty well done as well. If anyone knows how he did this on the blades, I would love to know the process. The handles are smoothed and polished stag that is very thick. Red spacers accent the tapered tang and bolsters. The sheath is pretty nice too.

Like I said Mark, "a whack"! These 2 are just as nice as what you've posted recently, but the Mendenhall would be worth the price of the knife for the blade engraving alone. Ivanhoe with a sword behind him, classic!

Here are a couple more that are up tonight. The first is a Larry Page made custom. Larry has been making knives a long time, since 1982, and learned from George Herron. He still provides knives to A.G. Russell for sale. He uses ATS-34 stainless steel polished to a mirror polish. Full tapered tang construction with desert ironwood handles.
The second one is from R.C. (Joe) Knipstein. Joe has been making knives since the 80’s also. This is a big knife and hefty. The blade is some kind of stainless steel and so are the bolsters and pins. Full tapered tang construction with desert ironwood handles.
Both knives are finely finished and feel great in hand.

Two more tonight. The first is by Sidney Pete Moon. Desert ironwood handles with ATS-34 stainless steel. I love this sort of a “sub-hilt” build on this. The contour of the handles is really appealing to me. This is one that I would love to carry and use. It just feels like a part of your hand when you hold it. Full tapered tang construction with burgundy liners. File worked jimping on the top of the blade. Custom sheath made by Pete.
The second one is by Don Cowles. The handles are stabilized curly maple and are really spectacular to look at with all the lines in the wood. The steel used is CPMS30V, which is a very high quality stainless steel. A red gemstone mounted in the tang. The engraved bolsters are beautiful on this. Don makes his own sheaths too.

They're getting nicer all the time Mark. I too like the contour of the handle on the first knife, and a knife with a precious stone mounted in the tang is something special.

On a larger fixed blade using knife I have always preferred a contoured sub-hilt for safety. Both these knives are quite beautiful.

Don’t be afraid to make offers on these. Trying to figure out a fair price is always difficult on custom knives. There is some wiggle room on some of these.
