Knives you pulled out "Just Because"

Post by 313 Mike »

I thought I would start a thread where we can post a pic or two of an old knife we brought out "just because". Sometimes I will get thinking about a knife I have in my accumulation, and bring it out and re-familiarize myself with it, admire it, just because. I'm not always sure where to post those random knives, so here's a spot.
I'll start out with this old Ka-Bar jack I got to thinking about when I pulled out my big USMC KaBar the other day.
Black synthetic handles, cool tang stamp, good steel, still snappy. Based in info from people far more knowledgeable than me it from WWII era.
I dig it.
Anybody else got a knife or two you pulled out "just because"?

Nice knife Mike! Great thread as well. I pull out this old Winchester every now and then. I just like the intricate way it's made. I think about who might have carried it and such. It's an old HOK but I always thought it was a cool old Winchester. :)

Thats a great knife Woodswalker! Love that old bone, and that long thin pick is really cool too. Almost like a whittler, with a hoofpick as a bonus blade? I see why you like it, really unique. ::tu::

Thanks Mike!! ::handshake:: :) I believe it's a Winchester Gunstock Whittler (aka Orange Blossom). That's what I was told anyways. :)

Here's another one I pull out from time to time, just to ponder its history. It is obviously quite old, but has no markings of any kind to give a hint as to who the maker may have been.
Has a solid half stop, no blade play, and snaps like a bear trap. I often wonder about its orgins, but will likely never know. ::hmm::

Thanks Madmarco. I wish I knew more about it, perhaps someday someone will enlighten me, but most likely not, that's fine too.
Here's another oldie without any markings. I am guessing Colonial, as I have had others of similar construction with an arched Colonial stamp. I think it's kind of a classy knife. Makes me think of an old time poker game, sharp dressed gangsters in suits and fedoras...not really sure why but it's got that vibe for me.

I hear ya Mike! I can just see John Dillinger reaching into his vest pocket and pulling out that knife to clean his fingernails with! LOL! I wish I could help with the makers, years, and other details you were looking for about the knives you posted, but I'm much more of an accumulator of knives I admire, as opposed to a true collector such as yourself, who knows or wants to know all the little idiosyncrasies about your knives. I see it, I like it, I buy it, simple! 8)

I like it!!! Are there #s or letters carved into the wood, top right on 1st pic, or am I imagining such?

Here is old Iroquois, made by Utica, sometime between 1920-1940 near as I can tell. Anybody else have any knives they pull out of the drawer/box every once in a while just because?
