Lyle - the factory catalog calls the handle material “Perfected Stag”. Hope that’s what you were searching for. Tom

Really like L.F.& C. knives. Here's a few of my favorites. The little yellow one is waterfall.
According to Houston Price, they started as Landers, Frary, and Clark in 1865, (shortened to L.F.& C. in 1898),
but didn't make pocket knives until they bought out Humason and Beckley in 1912, and went out of the cutlery business in 1950. J.O'.

Nice knives, J.O'.

I may have that many L.F.C. knives; no more than that. I like your's.
Your little jack on top with the oval shield looks like the one I recently posted.
Good show.

Thanks J.O'.
I've got grinding marks on my "clip" blade.
I don't know what type of blade was in the knife originally. Your nail nick is farther down the blade compared to mine.
I'm comparing this as to the acreage between the end of the nick and the tang. Mine may have been a clip with a broken tip and reground to what it is today.

Here is a dandy 3 1/2" L F & C in French Ivory.

The Jerpe creamery was founded in 1899 when a man named Jerpe, partnered with Swedish immigrant Carl Swanson. They purchased milk, cream, butter, and eggs from farmers, and sold to stores and hotels in the Omaha area. A few years later another partner was added, he and Mr Jerpe would pass on, leaving Carl Swanson as sole owner. The business thrived, and in 1945 the name was changed to Swanson Foods. Yes, THE Swanson Foods. So this knife dates to sometime before the 1945 name change.

Roger, it is one solid Cattle knife, but you know that, thanks for sending it my way! It checks pretty much all the boxes for me......good history, interesting advertising, one of my favorite patterns in near pristine condition, I am a French Ivory fan, and on top of everyrhing else, from one of the titans in U.S. cutlery history.

That's the best looking LFC I have seen in a long time. What a knife.

Beautiful pearl knife there, Gary. Another beauty.

Found this LF&C in a cigar box at my dads years ago. A little rough but still tight and all. The celluloid handles have crazing in them or little cracks.

Love that gunstock pattern!
I love a pristine old knife as much as the next guy, but at the same time I have a soft spot for these tough, worn old warriors that saw a lot of use. They were a well- made and well-used tool that were admired by the generations before us, and you know that you are holding a bit of family history in your hand when you have it.
I It is a shame about the celluloid. If it ever starts tarnishing the bolsters then pop the handles off quickly before they destroy the knife. Some celluloid seems to just "dry up and crumble" when it outgasses, and does little damage. Some of it will destroy the entire knife. There really is no way to know until it happens.
Still, if it were my Dad's knife, I would keep it as original as possible for as long as possible.
Jesus is life.
Everything else is just a hobby.
