I have seen others of this pattern with a shield and without the patent date so with the patent date I'm thinking around WW1.

Thanks guys.Got it on Ebay a few days ago, for what I thought was cheap.I don't know what people were looking at,but it is a great little knife.In my experience the fancy etched Catts are older knives.Easily pre WWI.

I picked a Catt up this week that I have not seen before, it's a very small single blade jack, 2 5/8", no pattern number. Pictures show it next to an old KK Barlow for size comparison.
