I haven't had anything to post for a while now but I did get this Catt. from Derek via an introduction from Mike (Galvanic.) Great looking bone and quite the knife overall. I really like the swedges.

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Beautiful knives!
It's such a shame AAPK doesn't have a "Brand Specific" forum for this great old brand. Cattaraugus was one of the seminal American knife manufacturers, a maker of cutlery of highest quality. Yet there are brand specific forums for IMHO much lesser brands (some having fewer posts than this single Cattaraugus thread alone).
Why is there no Cattaraugus forum?

That’s a stunner Mike ...ObsidianEdge wrote:I haven't had anything to post for a while now but I did get this Catt. from Derek via an introduction from Mike (Galvanic.) Great looking bone and quite the knife overall. I really like the swedges.
Ken - I have to agree about certain knife brands that have a subforum and don’t disagree about Cattauraugus - personally I can think of a few subforums which would be nice to have (including a subforum devoted to Sheffield and a few CT/MA makers) and I think they would have more interest than at least a handful of existing subforums which get little activity ... a new subforum was made for Winchester which is nice but my other concern is that all discussed on Winchester before under Knife Lore is lost or not easily found now... I guess in the end when does one draw the line on subforums to include? ... I think there are a few subforums which would not necessarily be missed if some had to be cut to make room... just my opinion...

I agree but somehow new subforum get created anyway. I first requested a Catt subforum a couple of years ago, to no avail. There have been several new subforums created since then. When the one for "Sharpening" was created several old threads from other places were moved to it. Finding posts on Cattaraugus (or any other brand) requires using the search function but having a dedicated subforum helps.LongBlade wrote:a new subforum was made for Winchester which is nice but my other concern is that all discussed on Winchester before under Knife Lore is lost or not easily found now... Years ago when I first joined AAPK I was surprised to see there was no dedicated Cattaraugus subform. And I'm surprised whenever a new one is created but still no Cattaraugus.
Easy for me to say. I appreciate all that the admins and moderators do!

That Yukon Liner Lock and the (Jumbo?) Sleeveboard are two outstanding knives in my book! Thanks for posting them, I'll be drooling for days . . .

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Hey 1967redrider, Yes Sir I call it a Jumbo 1/2 Whittler. Others may call it just a big sleeveboard. I kinda enjoy giving "names" to old knives as it helps me to remember them. I sent my late Grandpa a knife to evaluate for me about 15yrs ago & all he told me was that it was "Double Ugly". hahahaha
The Rope knife had no markings anywhere on it & it did have Thick bone handles & a very thin bolster w/ steel pins. We came to the conclusion it was a Japan WW2 Era knife. There was not as many pictures on the net back then or info so I just now googled it to find a similar picture for you. It was Ugly looking...lol

Are these Congress 3 blade whittlers fairly common? I don't see them when "out and about" but have notuced a couple in this forum.
