Desirable Old Dog-Leg Jacks
Another one of my favorite all time jack knife patterns.
These have always appealed to me, they cost more to make and usually came with premium handle material. I like the jigged bone handle ones the best and stag of course
This is an old Clauss, blade is still etched.
Let`s see some more of these, peanuts welcome too

That's a great looking knife MB. It looks like the springs come around the bottom of the caps. How long is it?

Joe,
It measures 3 5/8" closed, the back spring comes up to within 1/8" of the tip of the master blade.

Here's an Ulster dog leg I picked up for $5 at the flea market in June. Someone other than me liked this one by the amount of wear on it.

Dimitri;
To me that Clauss looks like it was made by Challenge. What do you think?

I love dog legs. A hard working pattern back in the day. Here's an early Winchester:

MB,
Nice! Same bone jigging. I've been told it might be Napanoch? I have another Winchester jack with different jigging.

Re: Desirable Old Dog-Leg Jacks
Winchester bought out Napanoch in 1919, therefore you will see the early ones with the same bone jigging as Napanoch. I do not know exactly when Winchester stopped using this style jigging. However, by the 1920`s I have noticed the style was changed on some knives I have.ObsidianEdge wrote:Same bone jigging. I've been told it might be Napanoch? Probably due to their merger with Simmons Hardware. Simmons owned Walden Knife Co.
So you will see old Winchester knives with at least two different jigging styles.

Good thread choice, Dimitri! Doglegs are often real beauties, and seem harder to find than most. Here's a 3 1/2" (1/32" under), Candle-end Dogleg from Schrade Cut Co.
