Oh yea, that knife. I still have that one although a bunch have asked me to sell it. I thought you meant a tickler pattern knife. I'm glad to see that stuff your posting and selling.

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Thx Danno, I got a couple more that will be similar to this pattern. I like them a lot. If not mistaken some refer to this pattern as a Eureka right?

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Don't know much about this brand but seems to be made very well.
Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Here is a celluloid handled oldie from Johnson Cutlery Co. of Des Moines, IA. I found it at the NCCA show in Mystic, CT in 2018. Goins and Levine's Guide, 4th Ed. say they were only around for about two years (circa 1929-1931).

That is a nice find, Dennis, a new one on me. What is the length of that "old and obscure" beauty?

That's a beautiful old knife and a great old pattern. I love everything about it. ____Daveratlesnake75 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 10:13 am Here is my Townley w/ Neat Etch & Pattern

It's 3-3/8" closed Ike. More or less in what I think of as the sweet spot of 3.5" for carrying knives. That is a nice find, Dennis, a new one on me. What is the length of that "old and obscure" beauty?

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Here is one of the most appealing pen knives that i have. It is quite plain but well made and almost elegant with the very black ebony handles that are nicely rounded to give some 'body' to the knife. 2 3/4", both blades marked "James/Dewsnap/Sheffield" noted in Goins with dates 1850-1875.

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Thanks for your kind words. What makes a knife 'special' is not just the looks. It is just as much the in hand feel and sensation imparted by blades as you open and close them. However we cannot share 'feel' over the internet, yet.

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Sweet knife Roland!!
Re: Old and Obscure Brands
As best I can tell Roland this is the first mention on AAPK of this tang stamp, though there is one other knife with a "J. Dewsnap" tang stamp. I wonder what the relationship was, if any, among these two marks?

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
That is a dandy! I can easily imagine, that it does have a "great feel", beautiful wood as well.

Re: Old and Obscure Brands
Goins lists an "Enos Dewsnap" and gives the same dates 1850-1875.
Most likely "J. Dewsnap" is the same person as "James Dewsnap" as long as the "J. Dewsnap" knife looks to be from the same time period.
