Re: Antique Quill Knives
Have a few, mostly ground down to nubs. Here's a NEW YORK KNIFE. Pick bone, rat tails, stained but not at all worn. Nice little knife.

Yes the handles are horn, love the really old horn has great colors!
Re: Antique Quill Knives
Nice showing of knives by everyone. Haven’t posted in a while, hope you like this one. James Green and Co from 1830s if I remember correctly.

Re: Antique Quill Knives
Really different! Folder? How is it built? J.O'.
Re: Antique Quill Knives
Thanks Mike and J.O. It’s not a folder has an ivory handle. When I first picked it up a couple years ago I looked on some antique website for information. There was several with the same design but had wooden handles. Thanks again. Bill

Re: Antique Quill Knives
Nice knife, I’m pretty sure Valley Falls is a secondary brand of Cattaraugus. I have a bulkhead and on the back it refers to Valley Falls and Attica as products that are not covered under the same warranty as their Cattaraugus marked knives

Thank you for that clarification Mike;I must have been thinking of something else when I posted it.galvanic1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 11:15 pm Nice knife, I’m pretty sure Valley Falls is a secondary brand of Cattaraugus. Re: Antique Quill Knives
Very similar to the NYK I posted on the previous page. In comparison, yours help me determine that the blade on mine has been re-profiled to look more like a sheepsfoot.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 11:36 pm Have a few, mostly ground down to nubs. Mike, great little knife.galvanic1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 1:42 pm Just got this little 3 3-8” closed beauty from over the pond. Tang only has R * W. 1820’s maybe? Can’t find anything on that mark in Levine’s or any of the Sheffield books I have so any help would be appreciated.
In my "London Knife Book" - 1820 - 1945, there is a Ramspott & Williams at 96 Great Tower St. 1895.
Maybe it's the R*W on the little tang.??
Tweedales gives a date for James Green & Co., 1839 and a nice little history.
Nice one, Bill.

Re: Antique Quill Knives
Bought this for about a dollar a while back. 2-1/2" delicate but well-made. Brass lined, genuine tortoise. Always intrigues me that makers don't stamp their work. Maybe early 20th century Asian origin? Scales are damaged but I have lots of genuine tortoise to make new ones. Used to by it up to make guitar picks. Nothing better for flat picking. J.O'.

Re: Antique Quill Knives
Finally found a Camillus stamped quill knife ,or is it ? The stamp is the early 1900 s stamp ( example next to it ) and the spring is wrapped around the end and up into the blade well . It does not have a flat side on the blade . If you go back to page one and read M B s intro to this thread it’s worth the time . It sure cleared up a few ? I had . Even with the cracked Pearl this one is a big addition to the early Camillus collection. The knife is 2 and 3/8 inches long ( closed ). Also the smallest Camillus stamp in the collection . Some makers back didn’t have stamps that small based on research .
Anybody have any thing to add to this thread would be great. Some good info and great Quill knives here .
Take care out there .
