The rounded letters indicate use of a modern stamp.Old stamps were hand cut and the ends of the letters were square.Cdavis1331 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 8:48 pmThanks for your input. Does the rounded end of letters indicate engraving? It doesn't look "cold stamped" to me. The spacing could be because of the method of photo taking, but you may be 100% correct.peanut740 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 4:21 pmBad stamp on a Cattaraugus leftover blade.Letters in the stamp are rounded on the ends and the spacing is off.The blade has a large choil constant with Cattaraugus blades.Cdavis1331 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:30 pm I'm a new member but a long time collector. I decided to post in this thread first to find out opinions on the legitimacy of this Napanoch stamped Knife. I have received mixed answers from "experts," and I have my own theories. I am only going to share the best pics I have of the tang stamp at first because I am most interested in opinions on the stamp.[*]

Re: The Napanoch Knife Company Napanoch N.Y.
There seems to be a lot of self anointed Facebook knife experts. Most have never left the comfort of their recliners. The best way to learn about knives is to get out and handle all you can.Feel how they work, compare to known examples etc. Also buy a couple books and do some research.Cdavis1331 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 8:43 pm Thank you for your input. I asked about the stamp in particular first because I have been told the stamp is authentic, and possibly in a different frame. I have gotten several opinions from various sources, some from Facebook experts, others from folks who had held the knife in their hand. I believe the knife is put together with a German made frame and a Parker era Napanoch stamped blade. The stamp does not look "cold stamped" or engraved in any way to me, but I'm no expert. Not sure if spacing is an issue, that could be distorted by the method of photo taking. The dot after Napanoch, which should be more of a comma is what looks most suspicious to me. In any case, I purchased the knife as authentic, but now believe it is a "fake." Pictures of whole knife are attached, as well as examples of the knife I think the frame came from, I tried to purchase both of the examples to compare measurements, etc. but both were too expensive for me.

Re: The Napanoch Knife Company Napanoch N.Y.
Recently, this pocket knife arrived in a very large group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. This pocket knife now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, as it turned out, this pocket knife is definitely a keeper and will be added to my general pocket knife collection. It is an Ulery, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 7/8" closed, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says "Ulery (over) NEW YORK USA" This pocket knife is the main component in the pattern or model No. 602, tool kit. The tools that came with it are AWOL. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did need a bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is. Picture #9 is of the tang stamp (much more legible) on the only other Ulery pocket knife that I have. Picture #10 is from my NAPANOCH catalog and it shows the complete, No. 602, Ulery tool kit.

A very nice elephant toe. I wasn’t aware Napanoch even made that pattern. Thanks Mike for posting pics. Steve B.galvanic1882 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 12:45 pm Napanoch toe I picked up a while ago, thought I posted it here before but did not.

Found the top portion of a Napanoch box , it's a little rough, but the pattern #8001 is for a tool kit knife.
Re: The Napanoch Knife Company Napanoch N.Y.
Cool to have both the bone and wood handled sets. Do your tools interchange between the two handles. I have had both the wood and bone handles and my wood handled took a thicker tang? Wonder if it had to do with manufactured date. Re: The Napanoch Knife Company Napanoch N.Y.
Those are two really nice sets. I like the guard on the hacksaw blade. Been on the look out for one. Most sets do not have them. Can you tell me if it is steel or aluminum? Harold asks an interesting question. Your two sets look like they might be interchangeable. Here is a pic of two sets marked Honk Falls on the blade. The patent dates are the same, 07 on the other tools but clearly two different locking mechanisms. I have to go back and look in the catalog and see how they are pictures. I think the Ulery kits were different from the Naps. Thanks for posting. The original box is killer. I have yet to see a Nap or Honk Falls box other than the tool kits. My guess is they used the envelopes that were common back in the day.

I have this same Napanoch Bottle Pattern shown here in this advertisement you've shared, it is one of my favorite knives I've ever owned ~ still has its original button fob chain that was purchased with it that they would attach to a vest, trousers, or coat pocket ~ it's perfection ~ love it
