Re: Empire Knife Company
Here's a unique little Empire that I just picked up from Galvanic1882. Thanks Mike! It's etched The Empire Tourist Knife on the master blade and on the other side perhaps the name of a steel Co. All I can make out is CCO Steel but there are other letters there. I've never seen this pattern before.

Very cool and nice knife Greg ... Unique pattern with that screwdriver/caplifter... I think based on the model # on pile side stamp it was made in the last years of Empire.. at least that is what I understand from others based on my Empire Bullhead Jack which also has a model # stamp and a catalog cut provided by another member of the knife with the model # was from 1926... nice addition Greg

Re: Empire Knife Company
Thanks Lee! I've only got that one and one other one that actually have pattern numbers. Good to know that info about the late 20's.LongBlade wrote:Very cool and nice knife Greg ... Very nice knife, Greg.
In spite of the etch would that pattern be called a picnic knife?

I believe this could be called a "Bottle Jack". I do not have LG4 with me right now but Levine does discuss this pattern with a corkscrew or cap lifter.

Re: Empire Knife Company
I've recently picked up 2 Empire, Winsted, CT. knives; a gold Gentleman's fob and an Electrician's folding screwdriver in ebony. The electrician has a sharp edge, scraper and screwdriver lock-back blade while the fob has the usual manicure blade with spline file and 2 pen blades. The workmanship is great on these two, especially the lock-back. It has a very fluid opening, locking and closing feel to it.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Empire Knife Company
Is this just a design or does it spell something?

Re: Empire Knife Company
Those are two nice ones Red. It does look like those could be someone's initials on the fob. The single blade electricians knife must have been pretty popular for Empire. You see quite a few of them.

Re: Empire Knife Company
Well folks I was very surprised to receive an offer to buy this knife, mainly because the one that I have I had never seen before. Lo and behold another Empire Tourist Knife is headed my way courtesy of 1fartsmella and this one has those unmistakable Empire jigged bone handles. Thanks Barry!

Re: Empire Knife Company
Greg, what a wonderful Empire! I call that kind of worked or jigged bone gouge, pick or divot. Beautiful condition Barry is a great guy to buy antique/vintage knives from! I have bought quite a number of old folders from him and have never been disappointed

Re: Empire Knife Company
That Tourist pattern is very practical while being a classic, I can see many uses for it! Two great finds, gsmith!
