Here is my only "cattle knife". I just found this one a week or two ago and couldn't resist it's charm. I love the blade that says for cutting flesh only. At first I thought maybe it said for cutting flush only but found out from this wonderful site that I was wrong.

Nice knife Rugmar. Is that a Cattaraugus?

Yes a Cattaraugus. I should have said that in my reply. It says 32209C on back side of main blade.

I am not at home right now but I will take a blades open picture and post it later. It does have a punch blade. It is slightly bent on the end but not broken.

I learned yesterday, from this great site no less, about the meaning of the round shield. Thanks for mentioning it again though. Galvanic1882, you have some of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen. What is the core of your collection?

This is an old Empire. Blades & back springs are dark. Has a few nicks in the cutting edge. But not bad for 100 years old.

Man do I love that Empire shown above. Have you had it long? The blades look as though they weren't used that much. Lots of metal left on those babies. Love that Bone color too.

Here's the blades open picture of the Catt I promised a few post back.

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy this place?

That Catt is really beautiful, rugmar.
It has quite the stout punch.
I have a few Cattaraugus knives but none with that nice round shield.

Thanks for the really nice comments on the Catt I posted. I have questions about it still. Does anyone know if the shield was originally inscribed with something or was it plain from the beginning? Also does anyone know what the C stands for at the end of 32209C which is stamped on the back of the main blade? I think 3 is for the number of blades, 2 is the number of bolsters, 20 is the pattern number and 9 is the handle material. Is the C for the clip blade?

Thanks again!
