Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
My John Primble pocket knife. The "information" tang stamp is barely legible (Belknap Hardware). The pattern # tang stamp is less legible. You can barely see the star, in the center of the tang stamp, in the center of the picture. It looks like a number "3" above and slightly to the right of the top point of the star. That's the only number that I'm almost sure of. Maybe a "0" just to the left of the "3." It is 3 3/8" closed. If anyone knows the pattern #, please let me know. Thank you. Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
I did some research a while back on an Oregon hardware store to solve a Cattaraugus pocket knife etch mystery-

Posted some links to Oakland, OR history too. I just might have to visit and take that knife with me some day.

A John Primble India Steel Works, most likely made around WW1, looks like Schrade Cut Co made to me.

Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
While not exactly a "pocket knife" it is a hardware store knife. Marshall Wells co. fixed blade. They were a Duluth MN based hardware store and this is the only fixed blade I've seen of theirs. It's also marked as having German makings which is new to me as well.
Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
From our "local" hardware store, three Marshall Wells knives.____Dave

Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
My “local“ hardware store Home Depot doesn’t have any knives like those
Dave, those are three outstanding Marshall Wells Jacks !!
Three distinct jigging patterns, three different primary blades and three different shields are all very intriguing and nice

Re: Hardware Store and Distributor Knives
Marshall Wells was quite a business. It had a railroad track that ran right into the building. It had a workout room and daycare for the employees in the upper floors and had regular dealer meetings where outlets around the area could send their employees for training and to see what the company offered. the building is still standing but is now several restaurants and other businesses. It still is an impressive big building down on the waterfront in Duluth. One of my son's was working on the sprinkler systems in the building and the current manager of that particular business gave my son a couple copies of old Marshall Wells common stock papers that were still somewhere in the building from the 1940's or 50's. I have one framed in my office.____Dave
