Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
So, I was giving a few knives some routine attention and this Catt kept begging for inclusion in the Ebony Handles thread. How can you say NO to a talking knife?

Great knife. Full blades. Should give that some pocket time. I use a Cat electricians knife and can’t believe how long it holds an edge.
Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
Thanks James, I am not opposed to that idea, I carry an old ebony jack every so often

Re: Old Ebony Wood Handle Knives
I was digging around in a $3 box at a gunshow last weekend and found this old 3 3/4" ebony jack. The master blade is stamped "Hammer Brand" with the Hammer logo and the pile side of the master is marked 2109. The pen blade is stamped "New York Knife Co Walden". Kind of a neat old ebony jack with a bomb shield. Unfortunately at some point in its life it had a run in with a live power wire, and it left a divot in the spear blade. I sharpened it and it took a real good edge.

OC, $3 knives don't get much sweeter than that one. Congrats. And the scar just says it is a worker. Great old knife.

OC, that is a great old knife, a lot of character there! I would take a $3 knife like that any day of the week.
Scott, that knife has "haunted me" (it IS Halloween) since you first posted a pic after you found it. I have gone back several times and looked at your pics of it and wondered about it's history and how it ended up in Florida etc etc, really awesome and unique old find!

Here is a survivor in ebony, tang stamped CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY Co. LITTLE VALLEY on the front tang, and 32206G on the back.
Then on the spey blade is stamped FOR CUTTING FLESH ONLY. Big round shield means it has a punch blade. Poor storage is about the only thing wrong with very old knife.

Thanks for the compliments, the only “punch” like these is in the very old Sargent book in the CASE section.

Can't pick a favorite from those three. Sweet old working man knives and all in such wonderful shape.
