Great Barlow John.

We should get a moderator to incorporate the two Southington threads.

Well mine has good snap and the handles are in great shape (it’s in the Tuxedo thread along with my 5 others wherever that thread is :D ) .... one thing I have noticed on the majority of old Tuxedos are “proud” tips on the blades and I assume that is a result of sharpening - though I wonder sometimes if any sharpening of these resulted in proud tips due to size as they are quite slim knives or were they sometimes made that way ::shrug:: ...

Lee, I believe proud or exposed tips would be something that cutlers would avoid on a finished knife.
I think any exposed tip is due to sharpening. You see it a lot in these old knives and with the smaller knives, which were used heavily and therefor sharpened heavily, the narrow blades were more apt to have a proud tip.
This is just the way I interpret the issue of exposed tips. There are certainly other ways of thinking about it.

By the way, here is that Tuxedo thread. You have some very nice knives in there on page two.

I agree Joe with your take on the sharpening ::tu:: and knew it was not likely shop made with a proud tip but thought I’d throw it out there :D ... I’m sure it wasn’t hard on the narrow blades to bring the tip up in sharpening...

Thanks for the comment on my Tuxedos Joe ::tu:: ...

Been almost a year and a half, time for a bump fore this thread, I guess it shows how hard Southington's are to find.

Added to my jumbo jack collection this week with this 4 1/4" Southington, considering its age very nice condition although it has been cleaned, full blades and as with most jumbo's you don't want to get your finger in the way closing.
