cudgee wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 12:52 am This is a cheapie, found it at a stock feed store in a country town, no maker or country of origin but was only $15US, so i thought what the heck. I tru-oiled the covers and had to straighten the blade edge on a stone, had a slight curve in it. I am in no way comparing it to some of the fine cutlery being posted, but it is a nice little EDC work knife, and i now have it razor sharp, and it keeps an edge a lot better than some of the lot more expensive knives i have.

Here's one of the "New Queens" made in China (SMKW). I must admit that I was hesitant to take the risk after my experience with the SMKW China Mini-Trapper fiasco. But, I decided that for $16.75 I could afford to gamble on it and, truth be told, I'm very glad I did because this China-Queen Amber Sawcut Bone Wharncliffe is actually very well made; certainly comparable to (possibly even slightly better than) any Rough Ryder I've owned. I have no complaints and, in fact, I quite like it...a lot! ::nod:: (Closed Length = 3½")

I think you'll be happy with it, jerryd, despite having only one blade (I know you're more of a two-blade guy). In fact, I liked mine so much I actually bought a second one (one for each hand!). In the interest of full disclosure, however, I must admit that this knife is not entirely flawless; as you can plainly see, it does have a cockeyed shield placement (I noticed the same thing on the one Treefarmer got as well)--which really is not that big a deal (except, of course, to a certain OCD Monkey who can always manage to point out the single thorn on the stem of an otherwise beautiful rose  ) Fortunately, the shield on my second one is not tilted, so there's a chance yours might be OK too. ::fc::

There were four things that outweighed the single blade. First and foremost was of course the Wharncliffe blade and then there was those sawcut bone handles. The price had a large impact on my decision but the thing that put it over the top was ~Q~'s opinion of the knife. That sealed the deal for me.

I thought for sure you would've mentioned the grooved bolsters, jerryd...I thought that was one of your preferred features. ::undecided:: ::hmm::

Saw this little (2½" closed) Made-in-Japan United Cutlery UC426 Wharncliffe half-whittler and just couldn't resist buying it even though it's a full inch shorter than my preferred size. I love the Scagel-style open pull, but the size renders this knife pretty much useless to me for all practical purposes. It's fine for the Wharncliffe collection, though. If it had a lanyard hole it would make a good keychain knife.

For size comparison: here it is next to a 3½" Case 6107W Wharncliffe Mini Trapper:

With so few offerings sometimes you have search for hidden Wharncliff blades and release them.
