Boys Knives Through the Years
Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
Here's another Boys knife I have never shown - Eagle Knife Co New Haven Conn - Easy Open Boys knife ... This was a kind gift of a friend that was and still is much appreciated despite the knife being in fairly poor condition - spring is shot, blade well sharpened with no snap but will stay closed if I push it down twice - seriously!! However this is my only Eagle Knife Co knife from a company that existed between 1916-1919 before being acquired by Winchester to initiate cutlery production. Eagle was known for high production and affordable knives and I think this knife was a prime example with black compo handles and rather simple less expensive design.. I am not sure if Eagle ever made any high end fancy knives ... I have never seen another Eagle knife .. Interesting that the tang stamp noted patent pending ..

Must be a rare knife John, if Lee hasn’t seen one.

Threw these up elsewhere but there are boys in the pic
Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
Picked up this nice metal IKCO Imperial, first boys knife I have been able to find that still had its chain, almost full blade with original finish.
Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
I think the chains are super cool. Great catch John
Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
Sweet John ... from somebody who has an affinity for boys knives ... and quite frankly the chains in good condition are harder to find than the boys knife itself ...

Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
Here's another Boys knife but of the more rare blunt safety blade variety - Northfield Knife Co - 2 & 3/4" closed - Cocobolo handles... Knife was no doubt enjoyed by some boy but not abused with good snap & tight - just a nice patina and character... I showed a few other boys safety knives back on pg 18 of this thread - a T Smith & Co (Sheffield) that was mine and the same pattern/blade Boys knife that was a Northfield owned by Joe (FRJ) - My Northfield is the same as Joe's but perhaps (?) made in a different time period - stamps are abit different and the pins on the handle - I did read in the "Great Eastern Cutlery" book by David Anthony that the stamp on my Northfield - Northfield (arched)/Knife Co (No CONN on stamp)- was supposedly earlier in the company history - "UN-XLD" in the stamp came later on and I think around 1876 whereas Northfield started in 1858. Thanks for looking...

Nice Lee, very nice
Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
What a beauty, Lee. A true boys knife for sure with that blunt tip.
I would think yours is earlier than mine too.
Very nice. Right in your wheelhouse.
I haven't received my Knife Magazine renewal yet. Looking to see your article.

Wow, Lee, that is a beauty! With that knife and a good imagination, I'll bet some boy tamed the Wild West and a hundred other adventures! I sure wish these old knives could talk!

Loads of great examples on here to look out for
I've consolidated my collection to these, with peanuts being my other weakness
I'd grab one or two more but at the moment I'm hunting a 3" closed Barlow

Re: Boys Knives Through the Years
A few Imperials with chains and 1 Hammer brand. The 2blade with the card and badge is the Hammer brand. The one Deputy Sheriffs knife that is a little faded says by Colt. Ive not seen that before.
