The mammoths cardiac impulses got recorded in the tusk. It is very rare. He was in sinus rhythm but might have had a previous infarct.

And one more, GEC 668214. This mammoth could easily be seen as elephant ivory. A good example of how mammoth & elephant ivory can look the same.

Thank you sir! I have had that one for about 5 years. My 2 daughters went in together and bought it for me for father's day. Needless to say it is a special one for me.gsmith7158 wrote:Woodwalker that is very unique in color and pattern! Very nice!woodwalker wrote:Here is my one and only. A Queen Mammoth tooth. I assume so. It is mammoth tusk that did not get stained by minerals in soil. For some tusks this could be close to the surface. I don't see the division into: interior or exterior to be useful. It is a division created by someone in marketing. These terms were not in use until recently. I see a division based more on: stained or scarred, vs. no stains or marks. The stained/scarred of course came from the exterior surface but not all exterior surface is stained/scarred.

Interior, Exterior, Stained, Non-Stained...call it what you will, whatever works for you. As far as I'm concerned, it's all gorgeous.
Here's the twin to Mark's 1997 3 1/8" Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe Whittler with Interior Mammoth Ivory handle. (See: Who's Into S&M?) Yup, I, too, fell for the old "Interior Mammoth Ivory" ploy cooked up by that clever person in marketing...again!

Here is a Yellowhorse knife by Queen that I put mammoth scales on. The knife had no scales when I bought it.

Classic pattern and all dressed up, good showing Q.
btrwtr that's a pretty good job. You may have to go to work for a knife factory. That turned out great.

Beautiful knives are being posted showing a wide variety what is available in mammoth ranging from simply elegant, to rustic and textured, to vibrant colors. Some of this is new to me.
