Re: Knives & Boxes
I started the thread after a few of us thought it would be good to see vintage knives with boxes from the same companies. I'll be posting more.

Re: Knives & Boxes
I have always been interested in knives but i have never had an interest in boxes. It was not until the internet came about that i learned from knife forums that many knife collectors also want the original box. It was only then that i began to keep some of the boxes. Now i have 4 garbage bags of knife boxes. It would take a lot of time to find the correct knife for each box !

Good thread, Mike. Lots of good posts. I am especially partial to the Catts in the button box. Here are three Keen Kutters and boxes.

Re: Knives & Boxes
Mike - Thanks for starting the thread and nice examples ... Sorry I just saw you started the thread. I just got out of a 7 day stay in a hospital emergency only a few days ago... I’m still in the midst of recovery at home for now and not comfortable BUT I promise when I’m up to it I have probably 4 others to show.. but here’s the one I had done which had us all thinking it sounds like a thread...galvanic1882 wrote:Hey Joe and Lee here is a start to the thread. I have more but need to take pictures of them. I might have posted some of the knives before without the boxes.
Barker, Dounce and Rose, Elmira NY whittler and the box I got with it.
If anyone has knives and a box from the same company let's see them.
I'm always looking for boxes from NY companies. My wish list is below.
Thanks Mike
Binghamton Cutlery
Terrier Cutlery
Sperry and Alexander
Napanoch Knife Co
Press Button knife Co
Joseph Rodgers Cutlery
Thomas Fenton / Sheffield
Scoutknives - Great example with the Challenge .. Not sure I ever saw a Challenge Cut box either...
KleenCut61 - That is one NICE pair from a company where the knives are tough to find - and you have a box too - Sweet

Yes sir. Correct knife to the box.LongBlade wrote:Do those model #s on the box for the knives shown?
Re: Knives & Boxes
Now that is cool ... In contrast to Remington where model #s are stamped on pile side and well documented in references many of us don’t know the model #s of many old knives because the cutlery catalogs are not readily available... in some cases even the name of patterns was not clear ...espn77 wrote:Yes sir. Lee, the Fenton box is amazing. Just thinking what that had to survive to still exist today. Great looking knife too!
Hope your recovery is speedy!

Thanks Steve ... and for the kind words for recovery...
That is my only Sheffield box and as you say it is amazing it lasted given the time frame... as I now understand it Sheffield boxes are much more rare and hard to find intact in contrast to the American cutleries...

A Robeson pearl handled Masonic lobster with a whittler blade configuration on top and a long file/cuticle blade on the bottom in its original box with a printed factory guaranty.

Re: Knives & Boxes
Great vintage boxes being shown here...very cool.
I always save original boxes but my knife collection is not of the vintage variety; so, this Case "pumpkin box" is probably the most interesting box I own.

Very nice Charlie and QCut ...
QCut - your efforts to save boxes from more modern knives is great - in the future boxes may not be as hard to find for future collectors ...

Re: Knives & Boxes
Yes I second that great knives and boxes.
Re: Knives & Boxes
I think the vintage boxes are much more interesting than the newer boxes; IMO, they have more character.
But, that's not to say all newer boxes are totally uninteresting. Here are a few more from my collection that will probably earn some character over time (although I'm sure it will be long after I'm gone...like in 50 - 60 years).
The box for this Mammoth Ivory Lone Wolf Loveless City Knife is interesting because of the ID label with a picture of the exact knife on it...right down to the scrimshaw detail.

Re: Knives & Boxes
Here is an R1253 bullet knife with the original box. The box is much harder to find than the knife. The knife has gone on to a new owner but I still have the box. It is the only Bullet knife box I've ever seen.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
