What would you call this....Teardrop Barlow???
Hey everyone....
I just got this (bladeless) knife in a batch of knife parts. I thought it had an interesting shape.
BUT.... Now, I am trying to figure out what to call the design.
Y'all got any ideas?
Y'all got any knives like this?
4" long with a large bolster at one end and a bare head on the other end.

I would not call it a Barlow.

Yep, you are right David.... not a Barlow....... but the longer than usual (?) bolster gives this knife a very DIFFERENT look.
Just grasping at straws I guess.

AND.... the springs are there...... with 2 still existing springs with a separator in between.
You can tell from the pin that is still in the end opposite the spring pin end that it was originally a bear head.

The Case Teardrop Jacks are 3 5/8".
Maybe a Jumbo Teardrop? But then again, maybe it would have to have an oversized spear blade to be called a "Jumbo."

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Well, I was thinking timber scribe at first.... but it had 2 blades at one time.
You can tell from the width of the springs, one was maybe a pen blade and the other was the main blade.
I'm a bit confused thinking about the possibilities.

I think it might need a large spear blade and maybe a small spear for the secondary blade.

Can't wait to see the finished product, Mike.

Me too..... LOL.
I have some projects on the board right now. One is apart and awaiting covers. I even had to do some blade repairs on it.
We shall see.

Mike, I think it depends on what kind of blades you put in that frame. But, in general, I would call that a bare-head, teardrop jack. Just my 2 cents.Meridian_Mike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:07 pmMe too..... LOL.

By the way, I've never understood why knives without a rear bolster are called "bare head". Shouldn't it be bare butt?herbva wrote: ↑Tue Sep 07, 2021 10:13 pmMike, I think it depends on what kind of blades you put in that frame. But, in general, I would call that a bare-head, teardrop jack. Some jacks were made with long bolsters to give extra strength. Not common but they are 'out there'.

Thanks for adding that point Roland.
I guess I need to do some more "lookin'"... I wasn't able to find any similar to this knife yesterday.
I was sorta hoping someone here would have a similar knife they could post.
