DJK: Nice ones! Here's a pic I posted for Christmas a couple years ago. These are old enough, I hope, to be past any sublimation problems. J.O'.

I have between 150 and two hundred old celluloids and store them in three knife rolls in my safe. I check them over 3 or 4 times a year for deterioration. yesterday I found one old Western Boulder has a scale pin that turned brown and I can see a couple little cracks at it's base so I removed it from storage so I can watch it more closely and so it won't affect any other knife. Going through my stag and bone knives, I found one that had developed a crack at the center pin and will need stabilizing to keep it from spreading. Let's not tell anyone about how much fun it is to collect those pretty celluloids, especially the old mint ones at very reasonable prices because so many collectors are afraid of celluloid. I have had several newer Winchester re-po's that have failed and had then rehandled in bone or stag, and I won't put the newer ones in with my antique ones.____Dave

Here's one I picked up for a song at the Badger show a few years back. Western, Boulder cracked ice about as perfect as a old knife could be.___Dave

That's a heck of a lineup. How many more didn't make it into the photo?

Because of its volatile nature, I don't actively seek knives with celluloid covers. I have one knife that I can say for sure is celluloid. A couple-few others may be. I'll add a photo of the one a little later.

I have at least that many more. Not all are as colorful.
I will get a picture of some of the better looking ones.

I love celluloid handles, but I do keep a close eye on them.
