oss/cia lock picking knife made by shcrade!!
hey my wife asked me what i wanted to do for my birthday and i said 3 things. the first im not gonna mention. lets just say if your lucky it happens on fathers day as well.haha! 2,i wanted to buy a knife. she has seen how much i have spent recently and said "you already have" so my third was just to sit and insted of shop learn. and during my learning today i came across this knife and it became a mini obsession anybody have anything like it please post pics of picks!!! check i out
"This is an original OSS/CIA lock-picking escape knife. Unfortunately it did not come to me with the torsion bar and the carry pouch. It was made by Schrade for use during and after WWII. These were a MUST return item given to an agent before they were sent" behind the lines". Somehow about 20-35, of the about 500 made, are known to exist on the collector market. Very few of them are in this condition and have suffered the use of the agent trying to use the knife for exactly what it was designed for, ESCAPE! These are pretty commonly found with the tips missing from the bent picks."

Re: oss/cia lock picking knife made by shcrade!!
I owned this knife. The pic is mine. The original poster found this pic on my personal page on my club's website.
Not sure what I can add to what was taken from my description.
The knife was issued in a leather pouch with a small torsion bar. To pick a lock the tumblers must first be twitched but without applying pressure to turn the cylinder the tumblers simply fall back in place.
This knife was a MUST return item. Obviously some made it out as is always the case.
I owned this knife about 10 years ago and sold it then for $1000. Its value today would be in excess of $2500.
Here is a better pic of the knife.

Re: oss/cia lock picking knife made by shcrade!!
There is some info out there but it is hard to come by.
Those of you with complete libraries will please go to pg 477 (3rd to last leaf) of Brucie Voyles' ABCA Antique Knives.
Those without a complete library, but at least a well stocked new book library, will please go to pg 78 of Mike Silvey's Pocket Knives of the US Military.
The second book will actually show the pouch and torsion bar that my knife was missing.
GOOD LUCK, there are only about 30 or so estimated to be on the open market. Silvey states THREE OR FOUR UNMARKED KNIVES exist. I owned one of them. Silvey states that after OSS that the CIA knives were openly marked and not sterile.

Re: oss/cia lock picking knife made by shcrade!!
I found these on my computer while looking for some other knife pictures that I lost.
I think $5500 is very high, but remember that there are only a few dozen of these to go around for many thousands of knife guys.

I guess this would be number five of the unmarked knives. So 30 won.t cut it. But thanks anyhow

As a novice lock picker, I would LOVE to have one of these! You are a very lucky fellow!
FYI, here's one of the modern versions for civilians, not the CIA (as far as I know!)

There are several others, often sold under the name "Jackknife pocket lock pick".

That's odd and really cool, which checks off two of my important knife qualifiers. Wishing I hadn't seen this.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
