72 Clone Rehab

Post by Doc B »

Got this Craftsman, 72 clone, off "the bay", sent to me for a grand total of $13.23. If my research is correct...there is a good chance this was made in the Camillus factory.
Found these stag scales, reported to be from the recent Queen Cutlery auction, $6 total for the stag.

Here's a trick, when you get down to the fine tuning...of trying to get your new scales to seat all the way down....
IMG_1471.jpg
1) Rub the bolsters with a pencil
IMG_1472.jpg
2) Attempt to seat the handle, the pencil will transfer to the bone and allow you to adjust the area that's preventing it from seating.

The stag was about a millimeter too narrow...so the swell center...is a little less swollen now.
The extra pinning, coincidentally ... ::paranoid:: ::shrug:: ...is somewhat reminiscent of a more expensive whittler, out there. Of course this will never be mistaken, for a $400 whittler (ha!)...but at $19.23...I'm keeping this one. It'll get it's "fair share" in the EDC rotation.

That looks good Doc. That shield goes well with that frame and handles, though I would probably not have thought of it myself because it's not a shape of shield I have normally seen associated with that pattern. But, when it's all said and done it looks very good, certainly better than not having a shield. ::tu::
