found old knife stuck in ground in open field walking the dog

Congratulations. Looks like a Providence Cutlery barlow. Hasn’t been lost long from the looks of it. Not a rare or particularly valuable item but should clean up nicely and make a good user. ::tu::

large blade was stuck in ground and had to get needle nose pliers to get small to open. I used diamond files (you can see one in a few of the pics) to get most of the discoloration, rust, and light pitting. Then 180, 220, 400, 600, 800, 1500, 2000, 3000, 5000, 7000 Silicon carbide sand paper. Sharpened on Japanese whetstones.
