Cattaraugus swell center jack

Post by OLDE CUTLER »

Most of you guys have something like this, a pile of knives laying on the back of your bench waiting for a donor, parts, or an idea. This was one of those. I bought it at the fleamarket out of a 1 dollar box a year ago and put it in the pile hoping to find a blade for it. Nothing materialized, so yesterday I took it up and decided to just make a replacement for the broken master blade. Since both of the blades are marked Cattaraugus, it will not lose its identity by replacing one blade. I believe this is a 22279, 3 1/2" OAL, even though neither blade is stamped. I bought it because the original bone is in really nice shape.

Thanks for all the comments. I just thought it was worth the effort to rehab it.

Not too shabby

Clip blade with some 'belly' to it. Reminds me of a PAL cattle knife.

Thanks. I try to make the blade the max that will fit into the bladewell to allow for future wear and sharpening. You probably noticed that I messed up and forgot to add the choil to the blade.
