I fixed up an Old Scout

Post by Meridian_Mike »

Hello everyone!
I got this old Schrade S2283 Scout knife from a seller last month. It looked pretty bad in the sellers pics BUT, I figured it was worth a try to get it fixed up and going again. It shows up in the 1926 Schrade catalog. I don't know if this one is that old.
Here is a couple of the sellers pics......

Schrade Scout S2283 1.jpeg
S2283 2.jpeg

The pen blade was broken off so I had to make a new pen blade....
I used the stump of the old blade as a pattern. It is a small blade so I just used a file or 2 to shape it and cut the taper of the edge.

Then, I cleaned up the main blade and all the parts.....

And here he is.... all cleaned up, assembled and ready for my display case. I don't think I will carry this one. I will just put it in with the rest of my Scout Knives so he can retire......

Thank for looking everyone!

Since I only had a blade stump I took some "creative license" on the blade.....LOL.

Awesome work Mike. I really like that replacement blade that you made from scratch. And, it was really nice of you to let the old guy retire in dignity! Definitely the right thing to do! ::tu:: ::tu::

Thanks for the great comments everyone.
As usual, I learned some more while doing this restoration. I always enjoy the challenges, since every challenge is a chance to learn.

I always try to show as many pics as I can during the time I am working on a knife. (although sometimes I get into working and forget to snap a pic....LOL)
I always hope someone that runs into a wall while doing a restoration can get an idea from what I do. My ways are not perfect but maybe they can spark a better idea that someone will share for us all to learn from.
