Repairing the Schrade Swinden Rivet Knife Video

Post by muskrat man »

This is hopefully the first of many videos I will be featuring on YouTube. This is my first attempt, I was kinda nervous and there are plenty of mistakes, like the batteries died about halfway through so there is a transition. Try to enjoy, if you have any requests for videos give me a holler and I'll see what I can do. I'm going to try a different camera next time and some better lighting so the shiny stuff isn't so bright.

EXCELLENT tutorial Kaleb!! ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu::

Great job!!!

I love your drilling jig. I think you have a more accurate solution than I came up with.

Thanks Dale. I can't take credit for the jig, I got that idea from Wayne Goddard's "The wonder of knifemaking" he uses a similar jig for drilling straight holes in antler he slabs out for folders. It works very well, but you need sharp bits and strong clamps. Those clamps were weaker than what I normally use, so the workpiece was wanting to move a bit as I was drilling it.

Thanks Scott.

Does anyone have any trouble with the video freezing up trying to load because it's long? Would it be better to do it in shorter 10-15 minute segments? Looking for any suggestions on what I can do to make it better, since I'm a newbie to this.

Nice tutorial MM! It's amazing what technology will let you do these days. When I started making knives back in the late 80's it was all trial and error and by book. Now you can find anything on youtube  I use youtube all the time when I get a gun in on trade I need to take apart and clean...just bump it up on youtube and someone on there will have a video on how to break it down!

Again, well done!
God Bless!

thanks men. I can do a little exploratory surgery video on a press button but I have to find one first. All mine are already in pieces, and most of my auto customers are pretty private, and I must respect their privacy.

This is sort of an old video, and you're still a very young man....very impressive, and an excellent tutorial, I have a handful of Schrade's/ Old Timer's, now I'll have some idea how to get into (and back out of) the Swinden Key. Thanks.

I have several old timer 5 OT knives. Do they come apart the same way?
