I'm extending the sign up for this pass around until it runs out of steam. Talked to Scott this morning and he agreed, instead of sending your contact information to Scott, send it to me. So if you get a wild hair to try out Rocky, let me know.

Well, here's old Rocky!
Fresh outa the pack.
IMG_2455.JPG
First impressions:
Not my cup of tea, aesthetically.
Blade too short and handle too - funky
The uncleaned flashing and shiny paint gives one the impression of a knife found at Walmart.
I like the one-piece construction. I doubt Rocky's gonna break on me.
HEAVY! I need to weigh, and update.
Balance is too far back on the handle - about one inch. I prefer from 1/2 inch, or further forward on the blade.
Rocky rattles in the sheath. This could be an issue on a hunting trip.
IMG_2456.JPG
The little pointy end on the handle looks like it might be used as a nifty glass-breaker. I didn't have any glass, but I did poke some holes in the USPS box!
IMG_2457.JPG
Then followed up with a little bit of box cutting. Either the blade is too thick or Rocky needs sharpening. I think a little time on the LANSKY might be in order. He did get the job done though.
IMG_2458.JPG
more to come.

Coupla more pics:

Rocky cuts through plastic like it's plastic! Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
IMG_2459.JPG
Notice the thick blade. This can be very useful for a camping or general utility knife.
Definitely could be used as a prybar, or an entrenching tool.
IMG_2460.JPG
I tried cutting an old hide unsuccessfully, but I think the blade needs sharpening. I'll give it another try after sharpening.
Honestly I must say that my relationship with Rocky has started out rather - well - rocky.

Well, I've spent a week with ol' Rock and I reckon it's time to send him on his way.
I didn't get to try to skin a fresh deer with him, because I spent most of my week either at work, or running back and forth to check on my Dad at the hospital.
He has Alzheimer's and is in a bad way... ::td::

I found a couple of good uses for Rocky. He makes a good mini prybar. I opened up a couple of shipping crates this week using only the blade.
He does make short work of pruning away the vines growing around the house.
IMG_2513.JPG
And I used paracord to tie Rocky to a broom handle and make a spear. ACTUALLY, he made a pretty good spear! ::tu::

It only took me 372 whacks to cut this stake in half. (yep I counted)
IMG_2512.JPG
In summary, I think Rocky is still the underdog.
Not pretty.
Too heavy.
Cheap looking paint (too glossy)
Poorly finished.
Poorly balanced.
Blade is too short to use as a hatchet,
and too thick to make a good skinner.
Noisy - rattles in the sheath.

He does make a good spear,
a good mini prybar,
he does O.K. with small tasks around the yard.

Thanks to Estwing, TripleFFF, and JerryD for putting this knife pass together.
I wish I had better things to say about the challenger.

So, .... HET HET HET.
ROCKY 1 is finis...
Who's next? It's time for ROCKY 2!

Hey Guys,
Please pm the address of the next in line for Rocky, so that I can pass him along. I have not had the opportunity to give him a test drive due to family illness. I have been traveling out of town for the past 7 weekends, and dont know when these trips will end. My father in law has had a real bad stroke, then fell nd broke his hip. Had hip replacement surgery last sunday, and now is in a nursing home for rehab. He has a long way to go. I will put him in the mail, either tomorrow or tuesday. Sorry for the delays guys. Keitg

Hey Guys, Finally got back home and have father in law settled in with my wife's baby sister after his hip surgery and a few weeks stay in a nursing home. Got a chance to review ole Rocky this morning and I will be sending him on his way to john here in a little while. Although I never got to use him to skin a rabbit, had my brother to butcher them while I was away. But i did manage to get him out and take a look at him and here are my thoughts.
1. The knife is off balance, the handle is too heavy for the blade.
2. I think that the blade is too thick for skinning, and not built for a skinning knife, at least for small game.
3. It is however built for a nice all around camping knife.
4. Needs a better ground edge on it.

These are my personal thoughts only. I believe that with proper sharpening that it would be a decent user knife. My biggest problem is with the handle.

I appreciate the opportunity to give it an observation and I sincerely apoligize for the delay with this test and reply.
I Thank You very much and again I am sorry about the delay. Headed to the post office now to send him on to John.

Jerry,
I'm next on the list, rifle season starts in earnest on Dec.10 but probably won't really get going till January when the rut come to life here in the Panhandle. If others care to test Rocky for a month or so I would maybe have more of an opportunity to use it later on, as I did on the review of "Griz",the Case we followed a year or so back.

Philip, so what I'm getting out of your post is after the first of the year in early January would probably be best for you.

Mike (SteelMyHeart85420) I still don't have your mailing address.
Edit: Never mind. Got it. Thanks Scott.

Please do. I don't think it's over, over but the lack of enthusiasm makes the time ripe for your comments. I don't think they will influence anyone one way or the other. Seems like everyone already has their minds made up about ole Rocky without even touching him.
