Case Etched Logo???

I came into the possession of a case knife with a leather sheath and stag covers. I’m not sure of the date of manufacture but I think it might be 1950’s. It is in really good condition, but when looking it over more closely I noticed that the case logo looks like it is etched and not stamped. Has anyone seen this before? What would be the estimated market price for a knife like this?

According to the article by Brad Wood published in Sargent’s 7th Edition, the only patterns he has seen having etched stamp are patterns 516-5, 523-5, 523-6, 5025-5, and 557, all prior to the USA era (that would be pre-1965). The tang stamps were acid etched “Case” instead of being stamped into the metal.

I have no idea of the current market price. Recommend you find a copy of Brad Wood’s article if you’re interested, as you appear to be, in Case fixed blade knives. It’s the best reference I know of. ::tu:: It has pricing guidelines for every pattern, but it was published in 2008 so at least 11 years old.

Very hard to find example of a Case etched logo hunting knife. 516-5 pattern. Nice!

Thanks btrwtr, It is nice, too nice to use, in my opinion. To the best of my knowledge it was never used at all. Original factory edge. Do people even collect these hunting knives?
