Does anyone know the brand of this Sheffield England knife
Does anyone know what brand of knife this is? It says Sheffield England and has a spur on the tang.

Can't help you with the manufacturer but that is a wonderful lobster pattern knife with nice stag covers. Welcome to AAPK!

I looked up spur in Goin's Encyclopedia and found
Peter Spurr 1787 -- Church Lane, Sheffield England.
I don't think your knife was made in 1787. If I find time I'll look in Tweedales book.
Nice knife.

Your knife could have been made by Peter Spurr senior or by Peter Spurr Jr.
Peter Spurr jr. died in 1838 at the age of 70.
If your knife was made by Peter Spurr jr. it has been very well kept.

Does the word, "ENGLAND" in the tang stamp not place the knife after 1891?
Beautiful knife.
Trade marks did not generally die with their originators in Sheffield.

Thanks for your information!

Take a look at this pdf link. ref page 339 lists several companies with the spur logo. Possibly a connection somewhere. On top of that the pdf has a lot of info on cutlery companies from years ago.

Thanks: It looks like it might be Edwin Blyde, or Walter Trickett

I think Edwin Blyde used the planet Saturn on most of their knives.

Actually John Blyde, not Edwin, used the planet Saturn and word Genius as his trademark on the tang of his knives - fixed and folding - late 1800s.

If you look at the link from Rusty1 it shows the tang icons. I found an article that Edwin Blyde sold to Walter Trickett in 1912.
They both had the same near the same spur on the tang. I couldn't find anything on the knife itself, and don't know if it was made in their lifetime or later. It states that the works( don't know if it is still Charleston Works) still stand on the corner of Trippet Lane and holly Street in Sheffield.
Thanks for all the information.
