the markings are silver hallmarks. Below is a link to a site that is a guide to understanding them. The crown indicates the knife was made in Sheffield. The lion passant indicates the silver content (i think .925%). The t is a date code and C.W.F. are the maker's initials.

The C.W.F. is CW Fletcher & Son Ltd and the t date code could be 1911, 1936 or 2018. It could also indicates dates back into the 1800s, but I don't think the knife is that old.

If I'm not sadly mistaken, they are silver hallmarks indicating the purity of the silver in the handles. There are hallmark charts on the internet. Look 'em up. They not only tell how much silver is in the object but also when and by whom it was made.

Hmm. Looks like Dan beat me to the enter button.

Just barely Jerry. I just looked up CW Fletcher in Tweedale's Guide to Sheffield Knife Makers. The company was founded in 1891. In 2013 it was taken over by James Robinson Inc. and became Robinson Fletcher, which was still listed in 2013.

Very good post Dan !
O.P. asked about rarity. I doubt there are a great many knives identical to yours but silver handled pen knives are reasonably common. Yours looks to be a particularly fine example, interesting handle surface and in unused condition. Value however is not high because not many people collect metal handled pen knives.

Thx for the info guys .. I was able to list this knife with info from u all helping me out .. I put it up for 89.49 and it sold . I’m guessing that’s pretty good for a little old knife. Once again thx for everyone’s help and info. I will be looking into how to support this AAPK website to be a supporting member. 👍

That is a very good price for the seller. i doubt an experienced knife collector would have paid that much because we look for 'bargains'. Novice knife collectors are the ones who tend to pay high.
