OVB knife.

Post by BenCheezy »

8) Hello,I'm new to this site. Bare with me. I just picked up a OVB pocket knife. I'm trying to get some more info. On it. I believe it is a model #156. From an old advertisement ad that was on Ebay. It's not in mint shape, but I was curious about its value. Ball park value? Any and all info welcome. Thanks,Ben.👍😎🇺🇸

OVB (for Our Very Best) was a trademark of Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett, a huge hardware wholesale company that began with that name in 1882. They evolved into True Temper and ceased as HS&B in 1962. We would need good photos of your knife open and closed, the closed length, and the maker's mark to help you as OVB never made any knives, they had several companies make them over their long duration in business, The early ones are usually high quality but the later ones not so much.

Welcome to AAPK. Values can be all over the place from $5 to several hundred depending on condition, age, and who made it for Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett. As Gunsil said, good clear in-focus pictures and closed length of the knife will be needed. Instructions for posting pictures can be found here: viewforum.php?f=98. Scroll down til you find the thread appropriate for your hardware.

Welcome!
While I've never scoped out a value for any of my knives, I know the advice given most often here on AAPK is to check ebay and select SHOW ONLY SOLD ITEMS.
What people ask for and what people get can be vastly different.
Take care and God bless,

Nice looking old knife! Probably clean up really well but may lessen the value when sold, might not to.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but the name is actually Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company.
Not Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett.

That’s a “coke bottle” pattern. Popular pattern with collectors but the knife has a lot of wear and rough use. The blade is obviously short. Likely had the tip broken off and was re-ground/shaped at some time. For collector value, condition is paramount, so it doesn’t have much value. If it functions well, locks up tight and has good snap, it should be good as a user. I’d value it at around $40. JMO
